17 That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.

18 Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.

19 Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God:

20 But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.

21 For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day.

22 Then pleased it the apostles and elders with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; namely, Judas surnamed Barsabas and Silas, chief men among the brethren:

23 And they wrote letters by them after this manner; The apostles and elders and brethren send greeting unto the brethren which are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia.

24 Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:

25 It seemed good unto us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men unto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,

26 Men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

27 We have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who shall also tell you the same things by mouth.

28 For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;

29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.

30 So when they were dismissed, they came to Antioch: and when they had gathered the multitude together, they delivered the epistle:

31 Which when they had read, they rejoiced for the consolation.

32 And Judas and Silas, being prophets also themselves, exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed them.

33 And after they had tarried there a space, they were let go in peace from the brethren unto the apostles.

34 Notwithstanding it pleased Silas to abide there still.

35 Paul also and Barnabas continued in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also.

36 And some days after Paul said unto Barnabas, Let us go again and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they do.

37 And Barnabas determined to take with them John, whose surname was Mark.

38 But Paul thought not good to take him with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work.

39 And the contention was so sharp between them, that they departed asunder one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto Cyprus;

17 (A)So that the rest of mankind may seek the Lord,
And all the Gentiles [a](B)who are called by My name,’
18 (C)Says the Lord, who [b](D)makes these things known from long ago.

19 Therefore, it is (E)my judgment that we do not cause trouble for those from the Gentiles who are turning to God, 20 but that we write to them that they abstain from [c](F)things contaminated by idols, from (G)acts of sexual immorality, from (H)what has been [d]strangled, and from blood. 21 For (I)from ancient generations Moses has those who preach him in every city, since [e]he is read in the synagogues every Sabbath.”

22 Then it seemed good to (J)the apostles and the elders, with the whole church, to choose men from among them to send to (K)Antioch with Paul and Barnabas: Judas who was called Barsabbas, and (L)Silas, leading men among (M)the brothers, 23 and they [f]sent this letter with them:

(N)The apostles and the brothers who are elders, to (O)the brothers and sisters in (P)Antioch, (Q)Syria, and (R)Cilicia who are from the Gentiles: (S)Greetings.

24 Since we have heard that (T)some [g]of our number to whom we gave no instruction have (U)confused you by their [h]teaching, upsetting your souls, 25 (V)it seemed good to us, having [i]become of one mind, to select men to send to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, 26 men who have [j](W)risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 27 Therefore, we have sent (X)Judas and (Y)Silas, who themselves will also report the same things by word of mouth. 28 For (Z)it seemed good to (AA)the Holy Spirit and to (AB)us to lay upon you no greater burden than these essentials: 29 that you abstain from (AC)things sacrificed to idols, from (AD)blood, from (AE)things strangled, and from (AF)acts of sexual immorality; [k]if you keep yourselves free from such things, you will do well. Farewell.”

30 So when they were sent away, (AG)they went down to Antioch; and after gathering the [l]congregation together, they delivered the letter. 31 When they had read it, they rejoiced because of its [m]encouragement. 32 (AH)Judas and (AI)Silas, also being (AJ)prophets themselves, [n]encouraged and strengthened (AK)the brothers and sisters with a lengthy message. 33 After they had spent time there, they were sent away from the brothers and sisters (AL)in peace to those who had (AM)sent them out.[o] 35 But (AN)Paul and Barnabas stayed in Antioch, teaching and (AO)preaching (AP)the word of the Lord, with many others also.

Second Missionary Journey

36 After some days Paul said to Barnabas, “Let’s return and visit the brothers and sisters in (AQ)every city in which we proclaimed (AR)the word of the Lord, and see how they are.” 37 Barnabas wanted to take (AS)John, called Mark, along with them also. 38 But Paul was of the opinion that they should not take along with them this man who had (AT)deserted them [p]in Pamphylia and had not gone with them to the work. 39 Now it turned into such a sharp disagreement that they separated from one another, and Barnabas took (AU)Mark with him and sailed away to (AV)Cyprus.
