Simon the Magician Believes

But there was a man named Simon, (A)who had previously practiced magic in the city and amazed the people of Samaria, (B)saying that he himself was somebody great. 10 They all paid attention to him, from the least to the greatest, saying, (C)“This man is the power of God that is called (D)Great.” 11 And they paid attention to him because for a long time he had (E)amazed them with his magic. 12 But when (F)they believed Philip as he preached good news (G)about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, (H)they were baptized, both men and women. 13 Even Simon himself believed, and after being baptized he continued with Philip. And (I)seeing signs and (J)great miracles[a] performed, (K)he was amazed.

He was practicing occult arts and thrilling the people of Samaria, claiming to be someone great. 10 Everyone from the least to the greatest paid close attention to him, saying, “This is what we call[a] the great power of God!” 11 They paid careful attention to him because he had thrilled them for a long time with his occult performances. 12 But when Philip proclaimed the good news about the kingdom of God and about the name of Jesus the Messiah,[b] men and women believed and were baptized. 13 Even Simon believed, and after he was baptized he became devoted to Philip. He was amazed to see the signs and great miracles that were happening.
