8 1-2 Saul approved the stoning of Stephen. Some faithful followers of the Lord buried Stephen and mourned very much for him.
Saul Makes Trouble for the Church
At that time the church in Jerusalem suffered terribly. All of the Lord's followers, except the apostles, were scattered everywhere in Judea and Samaria. 3 (A) Saul started making a lot of trouble for the church. He went from house to house, arresting men and women and putting them in jail.
The Good News Is Preached in Samaria
4 The Lord's followers who had been scattered went from place to place, telling the good news. 5 Philip went to the city of Samaria and told the people about Christ. 6 They crowded around Philip because they were eager to hear what he was saying and to see him work miracles. 7 Many people with evil spirits were healed, and the spirits went out of them with a shout. A lot of paralyzed and lame people were also healed. 8 Everyone in that city was very glad because of what was happening.
9 For some time a man named Simon had lived there and had amazed the people of Samaria. He practiced witchcraft and claimed to be somebody great. 10 Everyone, rich and poor, crowded around him. They said, “This man is the power of God called ‘The Great Power.’ ”
11 For a long time, Simon had used witchcraft to amaze the people, and they kept crowding around him. 12 But when they believed what Philip was saying about God's kingdom and about the name of Jesus Christ, they were all baptized. 13 Even Simon believed and was baptized. He stayed close to Philip, because he marveled at all the miracles and wonders.
14 The apostles in Jerusalem heard that some people in Samaria had accepted God's message, and they sent Peter and John. 15 When the two apostles arrived, they prayed that these people would be given the Holy Spirit. 16 Before this, the Holy Spirit had not been given to any of them, though some of them had been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 17 Peter and John then placed their hands on everyone who had faith in the Lord, and they were given the Holy Spirit.
18 Simon noticed that the Spirit was given only when the apostles placed their hands on the people. So he brought money 19 and said to Peter and John, “Let me have this power too! Then anyone I place my hands on will also be given the Holy Spirit.”
20 Peter said to him, “You and your money will both end up in hell if you think you can buy God's gift! 21 You don't have any part in this, and God sees that your heart isn't right. 22 Get rid of these evil thoughts and ask God to forgive you. 23 I can see that you are jealous and bound by your evil ways.”
24 Simon said, “Please pray to the Lord, so that what you said won't happen to me.”
25 After Peter and John had preached about the Lord, they returned to Jerusalem. On their way they told the good news in many villages of Samaria.
Philip and an Ethiopian Official
26 The Lord's angel said to Philip, “Go south[a] along the desert road that leads from Jerusalem to Gaza.”[b] 27 So Philip left.
An important Ethiopian official happened to be going along that road in his chariot. He was the chief treasurer for Candace, the Queen of Ethiopia. The official had gone to Jerusalem to worship 28 and was now on his way home. He was sitting in his chariot, reading the book of the prophet Isaiah.
29 The Spirit told Philip to catch up with the chariot. 30 Philip ran up close and heard the man reading aloud from the book of Isaiah. Philip asked him, “Do you understand what you are reading?”
31 The official answered, “How can I understand unless someone helps me?” He then invited Philip to come up and sit beside him.
32 (B) The man was reading the passage that said,
“He was led like a sheep
on its way to be killed.
He was silent as a lamb
whose wool
is being cut off,
and he did not say
a word.
33 He was treated like a nobody
and did not receive
a fair trial.
How can he have children,
if his life
is snatched away?”
34 The official said to Philip, “Tell me, was the prophet talking about himself or about someone else?” 35 So Philip began at this place in the Scriptures and explained the good news about Jesus.
36-37 As they were going along the road, they came to a place where there was some water. The official said, “Look! Here is some water. Why can't I be baptized?”[c] 38 He ordered the chariot to stop. Then they both went down into the water, and Philip baptized him.
39 After they had come out of the water, the Lord's Spirit took Philip away. The official never saw him again, but he was very happy as he went on his way.
40 Philip later appeared in Azotus. He went from town to town, all the way to Caesarea, telling people about Jesus.

8 Saul avait approuvé le meurtre d'Étienne. Il y eut, ce jour-là, une grande persécution contre l'Église de Jérusalem; et tous, excepté les apôtres, se dispersèrent dans les contrées de la Judée et de la Samarie.
2 Des hommes pieux ensevelirent Étienne, et le pleurèrent à grand bruit.
3 Saul, de son côté, ravageait l'Église; pénétrant dans les maisons, il en arrachait hommes et femmes, et les faisait jeter en prison.
4 Ceux qui avaient été dispersés allaient de lieu en lieu, annonçant la bonne nouvelle de la parole.
5 Philippe, étant descendu dans la ville de Samarie, y prêcha le Christ.
6 Les foules tout entières étaient attentives à ce que disait Philippe, lorsqu'elles apprirent et virent les miracles qu'il faisait.
7 Car des esprits impurs sortirent de plusieurs démoniaques, en poussant de grands cris, et beaucoup de paralytiques et de boiteux furent guéris.
8 Et il y eut une grande joie dans cette ville.
9 Il y avait auparavant dans la ville un homme nommé Simon, qui, se donnant pour un personnage important, exerçait la magie et provoquait l'étonnement du peuple de la Samarie.
10 Tous, depuis le plus petit jusqu'au plus grand, l'écoutaient attentivement, et disaient: Celui-ci est la puissance de Dieu, celle qui s'appelle la grande.
11 Ils l'écoutaient attentivement, parce qu'il les avait longtemps étonnés par ses actes de magie.
12 Mais, quand ils eurent cru à Philippe, qui leur annonçait la bonne nouvelle du royaume de Dieu et du nom de Jésus Christ, hommes et femmes se firent baptiser.
13 Simon lui-même crut, et, après avoir été baptisé, il ne quittait plus Philippe, et il voyait avec étonnement les miracles et les grands prodiges qui s'opéraient.
14 Les apôtres, qui étaient à Jérusalem, ayant appris que la Samarie avait reçu la parole de Dieu, y envoyèrent Pierre et Jean.
15 Ceux-ci, arrivés chez les Samaritains, prièrent pour eux, afin qu'ils reçussent le Saint Esprit.
16 Car il n'était encore descendu sur aucun d'eux; ils avaient seulement été baptisés au nom du Seigneur Jésus.
17 Alors Pierre et Jean leur imposèrent les mains, et ils reçurent le Saint Esprit.
18 Lorsque Simon vit que le Saint Esprit était donné par l'imposition des mains des apôtres, il leur offrit de l'argent,
19 en disant: Accordez-moi aussi ce pouvoir, afin que celui à qui j'imposerai les mains reçoive le Saint Esprit.
20 Mais Pierre lui dit: Que ton argent périsse avec toi, puisque tu as cru que le don de Dieu s'acquérait à prix d'argent!
21 Il n'y a pour toi ni part ni lot dans cette affaire, car ton coeur n'est pas droit devant Dieu.
22 Repens-toi donc de ta méchanceté, et prie le Seigneur pour que la pensée de ton coeur te soit pardonnée, s'il est possible;
23 car je vois que tu es dans un fiel amer et dans les liens de l'iniquité.
24 Simon répondit: Priez vous-mêmes le Seigneur pour moi, afin qu'il ne m'arrive rien de ce que vous avez dit.
25 Après avoir rendu témoignage à la parole du Seigneur, et après l'avoir prêchée, Pierre et Jean retournèrent à Jérusalem, en annonçant la bonne nouvelle dans plusieurs villages des Samaritains.
26 Un ange du Seigneur, s'adressant à Philippe, lui dit: Lève-toi, et va du côté du midi, sur le chemin qui descend de Jérusalem à Gaza, celui qui est désert.
27 Il se leva, et partit. Et voici, un Éthiopien, un eunuque, ministre de Candace, reine d'Éthiopie, et surintendant de tous ses trésors, venu à Jérusalem pour adorer,
28 s'en retournait, assis sur son char, et lisait le prophète Ésaïe.
29 L'Esprit dit à Philippe: Avance, et approche-toi de ce char.
30 Philippe accourut, et entendit l'Éthiopien qui lisait le prophète Ésaïe. Il lui dit: Comprends-tu ce que tu lis?
31 Il répondit: Comment le pourrais-je, si quelqu'un ne me guide? Et il invita Philippe à monter et à s'asseoir avec lui.
32 Le passage de l'Écriture qu'il lisait était celui-ci: Il a été mené comme une brebis à la boucherie; Et, comme un agneau muet devant celui qui le tond, Il n'a point ouvert la bouche.
33 Dans son humiliation, son jugement a été levé. Et sa postérité, qui la dépeindra? Car sa vie a été retranchée de la terre.
34 L'eunuque dit à Philippe: Je te prie, de qui le prophète parle-t-il ainsi? Est-ce de lui-même, ou de quelque autre?
35 Alors Philippe, ouvrant la bouche et commençant par ce passage, lui annonça la bonne nouvelle de Jésus.
36 Comme ils continuaient leur chemin, ils rencontrèrent de l'eau. Et l'eunuque dit: Voici de l'eau; qu'est-ce qui empêche que je ne sois baptisé?
37 Philippe dit: Si tu crois de tout ton coeur, cela est possible. L'eunuque répondit: Je crois que Jésus Christ est le Fils de Dieu.
38 Il fit arrêter le char; Philippe et l'eunuque descendirent tous deux dans l'eau, et Philippe baptisa l'eunuque.
39 Quand ils furent sortis de l'eau, l'Esprit du Seigneur enleva Philippe, et l'eunuque ne le vit plus. Tandis que, joyeux, il poursuivait sa route,
40 Philippe se trouva dans Azot, d'où il alla jusqu'à Césarée, en évangélisant toutes les villes par lesquelles il passait.

Şi toţi(B), afară de apostoli, s-au împrăştiat prin părţile Iudeii şi ale Samariei. 2 Nişte oameni temători de Dumnezeu au îngropat pe Ştefan şi l-au(C) jelit cu mare tânguire. 3 Saul, de partea lui, făcea prăpăd(D) în Biserică, intra prin case, lua cu sila pe bărbaţi şi pe femei şi-i arunca în temniţă. 4 Cei ce se împrăştiaseră(E) mergeau din loc în loc şi propovăduiau Cuvântul. 5 Filip(F) s-a coborât în cetatea Samariei şi le-a propovăduit pe Hristos. 6 Noroadele luau aminte cu un gând la cele spuse de Filip, când au auzit şi au văzut semnele pe care le făcea. 7 Căci din mulţi îndrăciţi ieşeau duhuri(G) necurate şi scoteau mari ţipete; mulţi slăbănogi şi şchiopi erau tămăduiţi. 8 Şi a fost o mare bucurie în cetatea aceasta. 9 În cetate era un om numit Simon, care zicea că este un om însemnat; el vrăjea(H) şi punea în uimire(I) pe poporul Samariei. 10 Toţi, de la mic până la mare, îl ascultau cu luare-aminte şi ziceau: „Acesta este puterea lui Dumnezeu, cea care se numeşte mare”. 11 Îl ascultau cu luare-aminte, pentru că multă vreme îi uimise cu vrăjitoriile lui. 12 Dar când au crezut pe Filip, care propovăduia Evanghelia(J) Împărăţiei lui Dumnezeu şi a Numelui lui Isus Hristos, au fost botezaţi, atât bărbaţi, cât şi femei. 13 Chiar Simon a crezut şi, după ce a fost botezat, nu se mai despărţea de Filip şi privea cu uimire minunile şi semnele mari care se făceau.
Petru şi Ioan în Samaria
14 Apostolii, care erau în Ierusalim, când au auzit că Samaria a primit Cuvântul lui Dumnezeu, au trimis la ei pe Petru şi pe Ioan. 15 Aceştia au venit la samariteni şi s-au rugat pentru ei, ca să(K) primească Duhul Sfânt. 16 Căci nu Se pogorâse încă(L) peste niciunul din ei, ci fuseseră numai(M) botezaţi în Numele(N) Domnului Isus. 17 Atunci, Petru şi Ioan au pus(O) mâinile peste ei, şi aceia au primit Duhul Sfânt. 18 Când a văzut Simon că Duhul Sfânt era dat prin punerea mâinilor apostolilor, le-a dat bani 19 şi a zis: „Daţi-mi şi mie puterea aceasta, pentru ca, peste oricine-mi voi pune mâinile, să primească Duhul Sfânt”. 20 Dar Petru i-a zis: „Banii tăi să piară împreună cu tine, pentru că ai(P) crezut că darul(Q) lui Dumnezeu s-ar putea căpăta cu bani! 21 Tu n-ai nici parte, nici sorţ în toată treaba aceasta, căci inima ta nu este curată înaintea lui Dumnezeu. 22 Pocăieşte-te dar de această răutate a ta şi roagă-te Domnului să(R) ţi se ierte gândul acesta al inimii tale, dacă este cu putinţă, 23 căci văd că eşti plin de fiere amară(S) şi în lanţurile fărădelegii.” 24 Simon a răspuns: „Rugaţi-vă(T) voi Domnului pentru mine, ca să nu mi se întâmple nimic din ce aţi zis”. 25 După ce au mărturisit despre Cuvântul Domnului şi după ce l-au propovăduit, Petru şi Ioan s-au întors la Ierusalim, vestind Evanghelia în multe sate ale samaritenilor.
Filip şi famenul etiopian
26 Un înger al Domnului a vorbit lui Filip şi i-a zis: „Scoală-te şi du-te spre miazăzi, pe drumul care pogoară spre Ierusalim la Gaza şi care este pustiu”. 27 Filip s-a sculat şi a plecat. Şi iată că un(U) etiopian, un famen cu mare putere la împărăteasa Candace a etiopienilor şi îngrijitorul tuturor vistieriilor ei, venit(V) la Ierusalim ca să se închine, 28 se întorcea de acolo şi şedea în carul lui şi citea pe prorocul Isaia. 29 Duhul a zis lui Filip: „Du-te şi ajunge carul acesta!” 30 Filip a alergat şi a auzit pe etiopian citind pe prorocul Isaia. El i-a zis: „Înţelegi tu ce citeşti?” 31 Famenul a răspuns: „Cum aş putea să înţeleg, dacă nu mă va călăuzi cineva?” Şi a rugat pe Filip să se suie în car şi să şadă împreună cu el. 32 Locul din Scriptură pe care-l citea era acesta: „El(W) a fost dus ca o oaie la tăiere şi ca un miel fără glas înaintea celui ce-l tunde, aşa nu Şi-a deschis gura; 33 în smerenia Lui, judecata I-a fost luată. Şi cine va zugrăvi pe cei din timpul Lui? Căci viaţa I-a fost luată de pe pământ.” 34 Famenul a zis lui Filip: „Rogu-te, despre cine vorbeşte prorocul astfel? Despre sine sau despre vreun altul?” 35 Atunci, Filip a luat cuvântul, a început(X) de la Scriptura aceasta şi i-a propovăduit pe Isus. 36 Pe când îşi urmau ei drumul, au dat peste o apă. Şi famenul a zis: „Uite apă, ce(Y) mă împiedică să fiu botezat?” 37 Filip a zis: „Dacă(Z) crezi din toată inima, se poate”. Famenul a răspuns: „Cred(AA) că Isus Hristos este Fiul lui Dumnezeu”. 38 A poruncit să stea carul, s-au pogorât amândoi în apă, şi Filip a botezat pe famen. 39 Când au ieşit din apă, Duhul(AB) Domnului a răpit pe Filip, şi famenul nu l-a mai văzut. În timp ce famenul îşi vedea de drum, plin de bucurie, 40 Filip se afla la Azot, de unde s-a dus până la Cezareea. Şi propovăduia Evanghelia în toate cetăţile prin care trecea.

The Church Persecuted and Scattered
On that day a great persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered(B) throughout Judea and Samaria.(C) 2 Godly men buried Stephen and mourned deeply for him. 3 But Saul(D) began to destroy the church.(E) Going from house to house, he dragged off both men and women and put them in prison.
Philip in Samaria
4 Those who had been scattered(F) preached the word wherever they went.(G) 5 Philip(H) went down to a city in Samaria and proclaimed the Messiah there. 6 When the crowds heard Philip and saw the signs he performed, they all paid close attention to what he said. 7 For with shrieks, impure spirits came out of many,(I) and many who were paralyzed or lame were healed.(J) 8 So there was great joy in that city.
Simon the Sorcerer
9 Now for some time a man named Simon had practiced sorcery(K) in the city and amazed all the people of Samaria. He boasted that he was someone great,(L) 10 and all the people, both high and low, gave him their attention and exclaimed, “This man is rightly called the Great Power of God.”(M) 11 They followed him because he had amazed them for a long time with his sorcery. 12 But when they believed Philip as he proclaimed the good news of the kingdom of God(N) and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized,(O) both men and women. 13 Simon himself believed and was baptized. And he followed Philip everywhere, astonished by the great signs and miracles(P) he saw.
14 When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria(Q) had accepted the word of God,(R) they sent Peter and John(S) to Samaria. 15 When they arrived, they prayed for the new believers there that they might receive the Holy Spirit,(T) 16 because the Holy Spirit had not yet come on any of them;(U) they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.(V) 17 Then Peter and John placed their hands on them,(W) and they received the Holy Spirit.(X)
18 When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money 19 and said, “Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.”
20 Peter answered: “May your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money!(Y) 21 You have no part or share(Z) in this ministry, because your heart is not right(AA) before God. 22 Repent(AB) of this wickedness and pray to the Lord in the hope that he may forgive you for having such a thought in your heart. 23 For I see that you are full of bitterness and captive to sin.”
24 Then Simon answered, “Pray to the Lord for me(AC) so that nothing you have said may happen to me.”
25 After they had further proclaimed the word of the Lord(AD) and testified about Jesus, Peter and John returned to Jerusalem, preaching the gospel in many Samaritan villages.(AE)
Philip and the Ethiopian
26 Now an angel(AF) of the Lord said to Philip,(AG) “Go south to the road—the desert road—that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” 27 So he started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian[a](AH) eunuch,(AI) an important official in charge of all the treasury of the Kandake (which means “queen of the Ethiopians”). This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship,(AJ) 28 and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the Book of Isaiah the prophet. 29 The Spirit told(AK) Philip, “Go to that chariot and stay near it.”
30 Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. “Do you understand what you are reading?” Philip asked.
31 “How can I,” he said, “unless someone explains it to me?” So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.
32 This is the passage of Scripture the eunuch was reading:
“He was led like a sheep to the slaughter,
and as a lamb before its shearer is silent,
so he did not open his mouth.
33 In his humiliation he was deprived of justice.
Who can speak of his descendants?
For his life was taken from the earth.”[b](AL)
34 The eunuch asked Philip, “Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?” 35 Then Philip began(AM) with that very passage of Scripture(AN) and told him the good news(AO) about Jesus.
36 As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized?”(AP) [37] [c] 38 And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him. 39 When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away,(AQ) and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing. 40 Philip, however, appeared at Azotus and traveled about, preaching the gospel in all the towns(AR) until he reached Caesarea.(AS)
