¹⁸ And when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money, ¹⁹ saying, “Give me this power also, that anyone on whom I lay hands may receive the Holy Spirit.”

²⁰ But Peter said to him, “Your money perish with you, because ^(A)you thought that ^(B)the gift of God could be purchased with money! ²¹ You have neither part nor portion in this matter, for your ^(C)heart is not right in the sight of God. ²² Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and pray God ^(D)if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you. ²³ For I see that you are ^(E)poisoned by bitterness and bound by iniquity.”

²⁴ Then Simon answered and said, ^(F)“Pray to the Lord for me, that none of the things which you have spoken may come upon me.”

⁷ Now therefore, restore the man’s wife; ^(A)for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you shall live. But if you do not restore her, ^(B)know that you shall surely die, you ^(C)and all who are yours.”

¹⁷ So Abraham ^(A)prayed to God; and God ^(B)healed Abimelech, his wife, and his female servants. Then they bore children;

¹⁹ And all the people said to Samuel, ^(A)“Pray for your servants to the Lord your God, that we may not die; for we have added to all our sins the evil of asking a king for ourselves.”

⁶ Then the king answered and said to the man of God, “Please ^(A)entreat the favor of the Lord your God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored to me.”

So the man of God entreated the Lord, and the king’s hand was restored to him, and became as before.

⁸ Now therefore, take for yourselves ^(A)seven bulls and seven rams, ^(B)go to My servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and My servant Job shall ^(C)pray for you. For I will accept ^[a]him, lest I deal with you according to your folly; because you have not spoken of Me what is right, as My servant Job has.”

^16 [a]Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. ^(A)The effective, ^[b]fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
