¹⁶ For ^(A)as yet He had fallen upon none of them. ^(B)They had only been baptized in ^(C)the name of the Lord Jesus.

³⁸ Then Peter said to them, ^(A)“Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the ^[a]remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

² he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?”

So they said to him, ^(A)“We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.”

^19 (A)Go ^[a]therefore and ^(B)make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

⁵ When they heard this, they were baptized ^(A)in the name of the Lord Jesus. ⁶ And when Paul had ^(B)laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and ^(C)they spoke with tongues and prophesied.

¹⁵ And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, ^(A)as upon us at the beginning. ¹⁶ Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said, ^(B)‘John indeed baptized with water, but ^(C)you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ ^17 (D)If therefore God gave them the same gift as He gave us when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, ^(E)who was I that I could withstand God?”

²⁷ For ^(A)as many of you as were baptized into Christ ^(B)have put on Christ.

^13 (A)Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?

¹⁴ I thank God that I baptized ^(B)none of you except ^(C)Crispus and ^(D)Gaius, ¹⁵ lest anyone should say that I had baptized in my own name.

The Holy Spirit Falls on the Gentiles

⁴⁴ While Peter was still speaking these words, ^(A)the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word. ^45 (B)And ^[a]those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, ^(C)because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. ⁴⁶ For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God.

Then Peter answered, ⁴⁷ “Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit ^(D)just as we have?” ^48 (E)And he commanded them to be baptized ^(F)in the name of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay a few days.
