⁵⁸ and they cast him out of the city and stoned him. And ^(A)the witnesses laid down their clothes at the feet of a young man named Saul.

^20 (A)And when the blood of Your martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by ^(B)consenting ^[a]to his death, and guarding the clothes of those who were killing him.’

Saul Persecutes the Church

8 Now Saul was consenting to his death.

At that time a great persecution arose against the church which was at Jerusalem; and ^(A)they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles.

¹³ They also set up false witnesses who said, “This man does not cease to speak ^[a]blasphemous words against this holy place and the law;

¹⁴ “Take outside the camp him who has cursed; then let all who heard him ^(A)lay their hands on his head, and let all the congregation stone him.

¹⁵ “Then you shall speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘Whoever curses his God ^(B)shall ^[a]bear his sin. ¹⁶ And whoever ^(C)blasphemes the name of the Lord shall surely be put to death. All the congregation shall certainly stone him, the stranger as well as him who is born in the land. When he blasphemes the name of the Lord, he shall be put to death.

^4 (A)I persecuted this Way to the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women,

^29 (A)and rose up and thrust Him out of the city; and they led Him to the brow of the hill on which their city was built, that they might throw Him down over the cliff.

¹³ And two men, scoundrels, came in and sat before him; and the scoundrels ^(A)witnessed against him, against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, “Naboth has blasphemed God and the king!” ^(B)Then they took him outside the city and stoned him with stones, so that he died.

⁷ The hands of the witnesses shall be the first against him to put him to death, and afterward the hands of all the people. So you shall put away the evil from among ^(A)you.

⁹ but you shall surely kill him; your hand shall be first against him to put him to ^(A)death, and afterward the hand of all the people. ¹⁰ And you shall stone him with stones until he dies, because he sought to entice you away from the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
