¹⁶ lest you ^(A)act corruptly and ^(B)make for yourselves a carved image in the ^[a]form of any figure: ^(C)the likeness of male or female, ¹⁷ the likeness of any animal that is on the earth or the likeness of any winged bird that flies in the air, ¹⁸ the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground or the likeness of any fish that is in the water beneath the earth.

^6 (A)Also he made his son pass through the fire, practiced ^(B)soothsaying, used witchcraft, and consulted spiritists and mediums. He did much evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke Him to anger.

^11 (A)Then the king of Assyria carried Israel away captive to Assyria, and put them ^(B)in Halah and by the Habor, the River of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes,

¹⁶ So they left all the commandments of the Lord their God, ^(A)made for themselves a molded image and two calves, ^(B)made a wooden image and worshiped all the ^(C)host of heaven, ^(D)and served Baal. ^17 (E)And they caused their sons and daughters to pass through the fire, ^(F)practiced witchcraft and soothsaying, and ^(G)sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke Him to anger. ¹⁸ Therefore the Lord was very angry with Israel, and removed them from His sight; there was none left ^(H)but the tribe of Judah alone.

^6 (A)In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria took Samaria and ^(B)carried Israel away to Assyria, ^(C)and placed them in Halah and by the Habor, the River of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.
