^29 (A)Then, at this saying, Moses fled and became a dweller in the land of Midian, where he ^(B)had two sons.

² Then Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, took ^(A)Zipporah, Moses’ wife, after he had sent her back, ³ with her ^(B)two sons, of whom the name of one was ^[a]Gershom (for he said, ^(C)“I have been a ^[b]stranger in a foreign land”) ⁴ and the name of the other was ^[c]Eliezer (for he said, “The God of my father was my ^(D)help, and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh”);

¹⁹ Now the Lord said to Moses in ^(A)Midian, “Go, return to ^(B)Egypt; for all the men who ^(C)sought your life are dead.” ²⁰ Then Moses ^(D)took his wife and his sons and set them on a donkey, and he returned to the land of Egypt. And Moses took ^(E)the rod of God in his hand.

¹⁴ Then he said, ^(A)“Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you intend to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?”

So Moses ^(B)feared and said, “Surely this thing is known!” ¹⁵ When Pharaoh heard of this matter, he sought to kill Moses. But ^(C)Moses fled from ^[a]the face of Pharaoh and dwelt in the land of ^(D)Midian; and he sat down by ^(E)a well.

^16 (F)Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters. ^(G)And they came and drew water, and they filled the ^(H)troughs to water their father’s flock. ¹⁷ Then the ^(I)shepherds came and ^(J)drove them away; but Moses stood up and helped them, and ^(K)watered their flock.

¹⁸ When they came to ^(L)Reuel^[b] their father, ^(M)he said, “How is it that you have come so soon today?”

¹⁹ And they said, “An Egyptian delivered us from the hand of the shepherds, and he also drew enough water for us and watered the flock.”

²⁰ So he said to his daughters, “And where is he? Why is it that you have left the man? Call him, that he may ^(N)eat bread.”

²¹ Then Moses was content to live with the man, and he gave ^(O)Zipporah his daughter to Moses. ²² And she bore him a son. He called his name ^(P)Gershom,^[c] for he said, “I have been ^(Q)a ^[d]stranger in a foreign land.”
