The First Seven Deacons Appointed
6 Now in these days, as[a] the disciples were increasing in number,[b] a complaint arose by the Greek-speaking Jews[c] against the Hebraic Jews[d] because[e] their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food.[f] 2 So the twelve summoned the community of disciples and[g] said, “It is not desirable that we neglect the word of God to serve tables. 3 So, brothers, select from among you seven men of good reputation,[h] full of the Spirit and wisdom, whom we will put in charge of this need. 4 But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” 5 And the statement pleased the whole group, and they chose Stephen (a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit), and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolaus (a convert from Antioch), 6 whom they stood before the apostles. And they prayed and[i] placed their[j] hands on them.
7 And the word of God kept spreading, and the number of disciples in Jerusalem was increasing greatly, and a large number of priests began obeying[k] the faith.
Stephen Arrested
8 Now Stephen, full of grace and power, was performing great wonders and signs among the people. 9 But some of those from the Synagogue of the Freedmen (as it was called),[l] both Cyrenians and Alexandrians, and those from Cilicia and Asia,[m] stood up and[n] disputed with Stephen. 10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the Spirit with which he was speaking. 11 Then they secretly instigated men who said, “We have heard him speaking blasphemous words against Moses and God!” 12 And they incited the people and the elders and the scribes, and they came up and[o] seized him and brought him[p] to the Sanhedrin.[q] 13 And they put forward false witnesses who said, “This man does not stop speaking words against the holy place[r] and the law! 14 For we have heard him saying that this Nazarene Jesus will destroy this place and will change the customs that Moses handed down to us.” 15 And as they[s] looked intently at him, all those who were sitting in the Sanhedrin[t] saw his face was like the face of an angel.

6 那时，门徒增多，有说希腊话的犹太人向希伯来人发怨言，因为在天天的供给上忽略了他们的寡妇。 2 十二使徒叫众门徒来，对他们说：“我们撇下神的道去管理饭食，原是不合宜的。 3 所以弟兄们，当从你们中间选出七个有好名声、被圣灵充满、智慧充足的人，我们就派他们管理这事。 4 但我们要专心以祈祷、传道为事。” 5 大众都喜悦这话，就拣选了司提反，乃是大有信心、圣灵充满的人；又拣选腓利、伯罗哥罗、尼迦挪、提门、巴米拿，并进犹太教的安提阿人尼哥拉。 6 叫他们站在使徒面前，使徒祷告了，就按手在他们头上。
7 神的道兴旺起来，在耶路撒冷门徒数目加增的甚多，也有许多祭司信从了这道。
司提反满得智慧和圣灵的能力
8 司提反满得恩惠、能力，在民间行了大奇事和神迹。 9 当时有称“利百地拿”会堂的几个人，并有古利奈、亚历山大、基利家、亚细亚各处会堂的几个人，都起来和司提反辩论。 10 司提反是以智慧和圣灵说话，众人抵挡不住。 11 就买出人来说：“我们听见他说谤讟摩西和神的话。”
被拿到公会
12 他们又耸动了百姓、长老并文士，就忽然来捉拿他，把他带到公会去， 13 设下假见证说：“这个人说话不住地糟践圣所和律法。 14 我们曾听见他说，这拿撒勒人耶稣要毁坏此地，也要改变摩西所交给我们的规条。” 15 在公会里坐着的人都定睛看他，见他的面貌好像天使的面貌。

6 A cette époque-là, alors que le nombre des disciples augmentait, les Hellénistes[a] murmurèrent contre les Hébreux[b] parce que leurs veuves étaient négligées lors des distributions quotidiennes. 2 Les douze convoquèrent l'ensemble des disciples et dirent: «Il ne convient pas que nous délaissions la parole de Dieu pour servir aux tables. 3 C'est pourquoi, frères et sœurs, choisissez parmi vous sept hommes de qui l'on rende un bon témoignage, remplis d'Esprit [saint] et de sagesse, et nous les chargerons de ce travail. 4 Quant à nous, nous continuerons à nous consacrer à la prière et au ministère de la parole.»
5 Cette proposition plut à toute l'assemblée. Ils choisirent Etienne, un homme plein de foi et d'Esprit saint, Philippe, Prochore, Nicanor, Timon, Parménas et Nicolas, un non-Juif d'Antioche converti. 6 Ils les présentèrent aux apôtres et ils posèrent les mains sur eux en priant.
7 La parole de Dieu se propageait de plus en plus, le nombre des disciples augmentait beaucoup à Jérusalem et une grande foule de prêtres obéissaient à la foi.
Arrestation et exécution d'Etienne
8 Etienne, plein de foi et de puissance, accomplissait des prodiges et de grands signes miraculeux parmi le peuple. 9 Quelques membres de la synagogue appelée «synagogue des affranchis», des Cyrénéens, des Alexandrins et des Juifs de Cilicie et d'Asie se mirent à discuter avec lui; 10 mais ils ne pouvaient pas résister à la sagesse et à l'Esprit qui inspiraient ses paroles. 11 Alors ils soudoyèrent des hommes qui dirent: «Nous l'avons entendu proférer des paroles blasphématoires envers Moïse et envers Dieu.» 12 Ils ameutèrent le peuple, les anciens et les spécialistes de la loi, puis ils se jetèrent sur lui, l'arrêtèrent et l'emmenèrent au sanhédrin. 13 Ils présentèrent de faux témoins qui dirent: «Cet homme ne cesse de proférer des paroles [blasphématoires] contre le lieu saint et contre la loi; 14 nous l'avons entendu dire que Jésus, ce Nazaréen, détruira ce lieu et changera les coutumes que Moïse nous a transmises.»
15 Tous ceux qui siégeaient au sanhédrin avaient les regards fixés sur Etienne; ils virent que son visage était comme celui d'un ange.
