Fate of Ananias and Sapphira
5 But a man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property, 2 and (A)kept back some of the [a]proceeds for himself, with his wife’s [b]full knowledge, and bringing a portion of it, he (B)laid it at the apostles’ feet. 3 But Peter said, “Ananias, why has (C)Satan filled your heart to lie (D)to the Holy Spirit and to (E)keep back some of the [c]proceeds of the land? 4 While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not [d]under your control? Why is it that you have [e]conceived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to men, but (F)to God.” 5 And as he heard these words, Ananias (G)collapsed and [f]died; and (H)great fear came over all who heard about it. 6 The young men got up and (I)covered him up, and after carrying him out, they buried him.
7 Now an interval of about three hours elapsed, and his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8 And Peter responded to her, “Tell me whether you sold the land (J)for [g]this price?” And she said, “Yes, for [h]that price.” 9 Then Peter said to her, “Why is it that you have agreed together to (K)put (L)the Spirit of the Lord to the test? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out as well.” 10 And immediately she (M)collapsed at his feet and [i]died; and the young men came in and found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her beside her husband. 11 And (N)great fear came over the whole church, and over all who heard about these things.
12 [j]At the hands of the apostles many [k](O)signs and wonders were taking place among the people; and they were all [l]together in (P)Solomon’s [m]portico. 13 But none of the rest dared to associate with them; however, (Q)the people held them in high esteem. 14 And increasingly (R)believers in the Lord, large numbers of men and women, were being (S)added to their number, 15 to such an extent that they even carried the sick out into the streets and laid them on cots and pallets, so that when Peter came by (T)at least his shadow might fall on any of them. 16 The [n]people from the cities in the vicinity of Jerusalem were coming together as well, bringing people who were sick [o]or tormented with unclean spirits, and they were all being healed.
Imprisonment and Release
17 But the high priest stood up, along with all his associates (that is (U)the sect of (V)the Sadducees), and they were filled with jealousy. 18 They laid hands on the apostles and (W)put them in a public prison. 19 But during the night (X)an angel of the Lord opened the gates of the prison, and leading them out, he said, 20 “Go, stand and [p]speak to the people in the temple area [q](Y)the whole message of this Life.” 21 Upon hearing this, they entered into the temple area (Z)about daybreak and began to teach.
Now when (AA)the high priest and his associates came, they called (AB)the [r]Council together, that is, all the Senate of the sons of Israel, and sent orders to the prison for them to be brought. 22 But (AC)the officers who came did not find them in the prison; and they returned and reported, 23 saying, “We found the prison locked quite securely and the guards standing at the doors; but when we opened them, we found no one inside.” 24 Now when (AD)the captain of the temple guard and the chief priests heard these words, they were greatly perplexed about them as to what [s]would come of this. 25 But someone came and reported to them, “The men whom you put in prison are standing in the temple area and teaching the people!” 26 Then (AE)the captain went along with (AF)the officers and proceeded to bring them back without violence (for (AG)they were afraid of the people, that they might be stoned).
27 When they had brought them, they had them stand [t]before (AH)the Council. The high priest interrogated them, 28 saying, “We gave you (AI)strict orders not to continue teaching in this name, and [u]yet, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and (AJ)intend to bring this Man’s blood upon us.” 29 But Peter and the apostles answered, “(AK)We must obey God rather than men. 30 (AL)The God of our fathers (AM)raised up Jesus, whom you (AN)put to death by hanging Him on [v](AO)a cross. 31 (AP)He is the One whom God exalted [w]to His right hand as a [x](AQ)Prince and a (AR)Savior, to grant (AS)repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins. 32 And we are (AT)witnesses [y]of these things; and (AU)so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey Him.”
Gamaliel’s Counsel
33 But when they heard this, they became (AV)infuriated and nearly decided to execute them. 34 But a Pharisee named (AW)Gamaliel, a (AX)teacher of the Law, respected by all the people, stood up in (AY)the Council and gave orders to put the men outside for a short time. 35 And he said to them, “Men of Israel, be careful as to what you are about to do with these men. 36 For, some time ago Theudas appeared, (AZ)claiming to be somebody, and a group of about four hundred men joined him. [z]But he was killed, and all who followed him were dispersed and came to nothing. 37 After this man, Judas of Galilee appeared in the days of (BA)the census and drew away some people after him; he also perished, and all those who followed him were scattered. 38 And so in the present case, I say to you, stay away from these men and leave them alone, for if the source of this plan or [aa]movement (BB)is men, it will be overthrown; 39 but if the source is God, you will not be able to overthrow them; or else you may even be found (BC)fighting against God.”
40 They followed his advice; and after calling the apostles in, they (BD)flogged them and ordered them not to [ab]speak in the name of Jesus, and then released them. 41 So they went on their way from the presence of the [ac](BE)Council, (BF)rejoicing that they had been considered worthy to suffer shame (BG)for His name. 42 (BH)And every day, in the temple and [ad]from house to house, they did not stop teaching and (BI)preaching the good news of Jesus as the [ae]Christ.

5 Det fanns också en annan man, som hette Ananias och som tillsammans med sin fru Sapfeira, sålde en hel egendom,
2 men bara överlämnade en del av pengarna till apostlarna. Han påstod sedan att detta var vad de hade fått i betalning, och hans hustru hade gått med på detta bedrägeri.
3 Men Petrus sa: Ananias, Satan har fått grepp om dig. När du kom med dessa pengar och påstod att detta var allt du fått, ljög du för den helige Ande.
4 Egendomen var din, och du kunde sälja eller behålla den som du ville. Och efter det att du sålt den var det din sak att bestämma hur mycket du skulle ge. Hur kunde du göra något sådant? Du ljög inte för oss, utan för Gud.
5 Då Ananias hörde dessa ord, föll han död till golvet och alla blev förskräckta.
6 De yngre männen tog då ett lakan och lade det över honom. Sedan bar de ut honom och begravde honom.
7 Omkring tre timmar senare kom hans hustru in. Hon visste inte vad som hänt.
8 Petrus frågade henne: Sålde ni er egendom för det och det priset? Ja, svarade hon, det gjorde vi.
9 Då sa Petrus: Hur kunde du och din man få för er att göra något sådant? Förstod ni inte att Guds helige Ande skulle genomskåda ert bedrägeri? Utanför dörren står nu de unga män, som har begravt din man, och de ska bära ut dig också.
10 I samma ögonblick föll hon död till golvet, och de unga männen kom in. När de såg att hon också var död bar de ut henne och begravde henne bredvid hennes man.
11 Och hela församlingen och alla andra, som hörde vad som hänt, blev förskräckta.
Många blir botade av apostlarna
12 Apostlarna gjorde många andra märkliga under bland folket, och de troende träffades regelbundet i templet på den plats som kallades Salomos pelargång.
13 Inga andra vågade förena sig med dem, men alla hade stor respekt för dem.
14 Och allt fler började tro på Herren, både män och kvinnor.
15 Det gick så långt att man bar ut sjuka på gatorna på bårar och mattor, för att åtminstone Petrus skugga skulle falla på dem när han gick förbi.
16 Till och med från platser runt omkring Jerusalem kom många. De tog med sig sina sjuka släktingar, och sådana som var besatta av onda andar, och allesammans blev botade.
Apostlarna arresteras på nytt
17 Översteprästen och hans släktingar och vänner bland saddukeerna blev då mycket avundsjuka.
18 De grep därför apostlarna och satte dem i fängelse.
19 Men en Herrens ängel kom på natten och öppnade fängelsets portar och släppte ut dem. Sedan sa han till dem:
20 Gå till templet och berätta för alla om detta nya liv.
21 De lydde uppmaningen, och tidigt på morgonen gick de till templet och började genast predika där. Senare samma morgon samlades översteprästen och hans närmaste män. Efter att ha sammankallat hela Stora rådet skickade de bud efter apostlarna för att ställa dem inför rätta.
22 Men när tjänarna kom till fängelset, fanns de inte där. Därför återvände de till rådet och rapporterade:
23 Fängelseportarna var låsta och vakterna stod på vakt utanför, men när vi öppnade fanns det ingen där.
24 När chefen för tempelvakten och översteprästerna hörde detta, blev de ursinniga och undrade vad som skulle hända sedan, och hur allt detta skulle sluta.
25 Sedan kom någon och berättade att de män, som de hade fängslat, befann sig i templet och predikade för folket.
26-27 Chefen för tempelvakterna gick då dit tillsammans med sina vakter och grep dem utan våld. De var nämligen rädda för att bli ihjälslagna av folket om de använde våld mot lärjungarna. Sedan förde de dem inför rådet.
28 Har vi inte sagt till er att aldrig mer predika om den där Jesus? började översteprästerna. I stället har ni fyllt hela Jerusalem med er undervisning och beskyller oss för hans död!
29 Men Petrus och apostlarna svarade: Det är viktigare att lyda Gud än att lyda människor.
30 Våra förfäders Gud uppväckte Jesus som ni hängde upp på ett kors och dödade.
31 Sedan fick han genom Guds mäktiga kraft en upphöjd plats som furste och Frälsare, för att Israels folk ska kunna omvända sig och få sina synder förlåtna.
32 Vi är vittnen till dessa händelser, och det är också den helige Ande, som Gud ger till alla som lyder honom.
33 Då blev alla i rådet ursinniga och beslutade sig för att döda dem.
34 Men en av rådsmedlemmarna, en farisé som hette Gamaliel (han var expert på den religiösa lagen och mycket populär bland folket), reste sig upp och bad att apostlarna skulle föras ut ur rådssalen medan han talade.
35 Sedan vände han sig till sina kollegor och sa: Israels män, tänk er för innan ni gör något med de här männen!
36 För en tid sedan hade vi den där Teudas, som gav sig ut för att vara något märkvärdigt. Cirka fyra hundra personer följde honom, men han blev dödad och anhängarna försvann spårlöst.
37 Efter honom kom Judas från Galileen. Det var vid tiden för folkräkningen. Några blev lärjungar till honom, men han dog och hans anhängare skingrades.
38 Därför är mitt råd: Lämna de här männen i fred. Om det som de gör och predikar om bara är deras eget påhitt, kommer det snart att rinna ut i sanden.
39 Men om det är från Gud, så kan ni inte stoppa dem, för då kommer ni att strida mot Gud själv.
40 De församlade lyssnade till hans råd och kallade in apostlarna och befallde att de skulle pryglas. Sedan sa de till dem att aldrig mer tala i Jesu namn. Till slut lät man dem gå.
41 De lämnade rådssalen, glada över att Gud hade ansett dem värdiga att lida förakt för hans namn.
42 Och varje dag fortsatte de både i templet och i staden att undervisa och predika att Jesus var Messias.

9 Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.
10 Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.
11 And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.
12 And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch.
13 And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them.
14 And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)
15 Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.
16 There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.

23 Saying, The prison truly found we shut with all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within.
24 Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow.
25 Then came one and told them, saying, Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people.
26 Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence: for they feared the people, lest they should have been stoned.
27 And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them,
28 Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us.
29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.
31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.
32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.
33 When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slay them.
34 Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space;
35 And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men.

40 And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.
41 And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.
42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.
