⁵ Now when Ananias heard these words, he fell down and died. And great fear seized all who heard of it.

¹⁰ Immediately she fell down at his feet and died. When the young men came in they found her dead, so they carried her out and buried her beside her husband. ¹¹ And great fear seized the whole church and all who heard of these things.^(A)

Life among the Believers

⁴³ Awe came upon everyone because many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles.^(A)

¹³ At that moment there was a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell; seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake, and the rest were terrified and gave glory to the God of heaven.^(A)

⁵ And if anyone wants to harm them, fire pours from their mouth and consumes their foes; anyone who wants to harm them must be killed in this manner.^(A)

² I warned those who sinned previously and all the others, and I warn them now while absent, as I did when present on my second visit, that if I come again I will not be lenient—

² I ask that when I am present I need not show boldness by daring to oppose those who think we are acting according to human standards.^{[a](A) 3} Indeed, we live as humans^[b] but do not wage war according to human standards,^{[c] 4} for the weapons of our warfare are not merely human,^[d] but they have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments^{(B) 5} and every proud obstacle raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to obey Christ.^{(C) 6} We are ready to punish every disobedience when your obedience is complete.^(D)

¹¹ For see what earnestness this godly grief has produced in you, what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what alarm, what longing, what zeal, what punishment! At every point you have proved yourselves guiltless in the matter.

²¹ What would you prefer? Am I to come to you with a stick or with love in a spirit of gentleness?^(A)

¹¹ And now listen—the hand of the Lord is against you, and you will be blind for a while, unable to see the sun.” Immediately mist and darkness came over him, and he fumbled about for someone to lead him by the hand.^(A)
