³⁴ But a Pharisee in the council named ^(A)Gamaliel, ^(B)a teacher of the law held in honor by all the people, stood up and gave orders to put the men outside for a little while.

^3 (A)“I am a Jew, born in Tarsus in Cilicia, but brought up in this city, educated ^(B)at the feet of ^(C)Gamaliel^{[a] (D)}according to the strict manner of the law of our fathers, ^(E)being zealous for God ^(F)as all of you are this day.

⁴⁶ After three days they found him in the temple, ^(A)sitting among ^(B)the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions.

Jesus Heals a Paralytic

¹⁷ On one of those days, as he was teaching, Pharisees and ^(A)teachers of the law were sitting there, who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem. And ^(B)the power of the Lord was with him to heal.^[a]

⁷ And when he had said this, a dissension arose between the Pharisees and the Sadducees, and the assembly was divided. ⁸ For the Sadducees ^(A)say that there is no resurrection, nor angel, nor spirit, but the Pharisees acknowledge them all. ⁹ Then a great clamor arose, and some of ^(B)the scribes of the Pharisees' party stood up and contended sharply, ^(C)“We find nothing wrong in this man. What ^(D)if a spirit or an angel spoke to him?”

^50 (A)Nicodemus, who had gone to him before, and who was one of them, said to them, ^51 (B)“Does our law judge a man without first ^(C)giving him a hearing and learning what he does?” ⁵² They replied, ^(D)“Are you from Galilee too? Search and see that ^(E)no prophet arises from Galilee.”
