²⁷ When they had brought them, they had them stand before the council. The high priest questioned them,

²² But I say to you that if you are angry with a brother or sister,^[a] you will be liable to judgment, and if you insult^[b] a brother or sister, you will be liable to the council, and if you say, ‘You fool,’ you will be liable to the hell^[c] of fire.^(A)

Paul before the Council

³⁰ Since he wanted to find out what Paul^[a] was being accused of by the Jews, the next day he released him and ordered the chief priests and the entire council to meet. He brought Paul down and had him stand before them.^(A)

23 While Paul was looking intently at the council he said, “Brothers,^[b] up to this day I have lived my life with a clear conscience before God.”^(B)

¹² They stirred up the people as well as the elders and the scribes; then they suddenly confronted him, seized him, and brought him before the council.

⁷ When they had made the prisoners^[a] stand in their midst, they inquired, “By what power or by what name did you do this?”

⁶⁶ When day came, the assembly of the elders of the people, both chief priests and scribes, gathered together, and they brought him to their council.^(A)
