24 On hearing this report, the captain of the temple guard and the chief priests(A) were at a loss, wondering what this might lead to.

25 Then someone came and said, “Look! The men you put in jail are standing in the temple courts teaching the people.” 26 At that, the captain went with his officers and brought the apostles. They did not use force, because they feared that the people(B) would stone them.

24 Now when (A)the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these words, they were greatly perplexed about them, wondering what this would come to. 25 And someone came and told them, “Look! The men whom you put in prison (B)are standing in the temple and teaching the people.” 26 Then (C)the captain with the officers went and brought them, but not by force, for (D)they were afraid of being stoned by the people.
