^18 (A)and laid their hands on the apostles and put them in the common prison.

³ And they laid hands on them, and put them in custody until the next day, for it was already evening.

^12 (A)But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and ^(B)prisons. ^(C)You will be brought before kings and rulers ^(D)for My name’s sake.

^10 (A)Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. ^(B)Be faithful until death, and I will give you ^(C)the crown of life.

³⁶ Still others had trial of mockings and scourgings, yes, and ^(A)of chains and imprisonment.

²³ Are they ministers of Christ?—I speak as a fool—I am more: ^(A)in labors more abundant, ^(B)in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequently, ^(C)in deaths often.

²³ And when they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison, commanding the jailer to keep them securely. ²⁴ Having received such a charge, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks.

²⁵ But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. ^26 (A)Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately ^(B)all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed. ²⁷ And the keeper of the prison, awaking from sleep and seeing the prison doors open, supposing the prisoners had fled, drew his sword and was about to kill himself.

Peter Freed from Prison

⁵ Peter was therefore kept in prison, but ^[a]constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church. ⁶ And when Herod was about to bring him out, that night Peter was sleeping, bound with two chains between two soldiers; and the guards before the door were ^[b]keeping the prison. ⁷ Now behold, ^(A)an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shone in the prison; and he struck Peter on the side and raised him up, saying, “Arise quickly!” And his chains fell off his hands.

³ As for Saul, ^(A)he made havoc of the church, entering every house, and dragging off men and women, committing them to prison.
