¹⁸ they arrested the apostles and ^(A)put them in the public prison.

³ And they arrested them and ^(A)put them in custody until the next day, for it was already evening.

²³ Are they ^(A)servants of Christ? ^(B)I am a better one—I am talking like a madman—with far greater labors, ^(C)far more imprisonments, ^(D)with countless beatings, and ^(E)often near death.

¹² But before all this ^(A)they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to ^(B)the synagogues and ^(C)prisons, and you ^(D)will be brought before ^(E)kings and ^(F)governors for my name's sake.

¹⁰ Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, ^(A)that you may be tested, and for ^(B)ten days ^(C)you will have tribulation. ^(D)Be faithful ^(E)unto death, and I will give you ^(F)the crown of life.

³⁶ Others suffered mocking and flogging, and even ^(A)chains and imprisonment.

²³ And when they had inflicted many blows upon them, they threw them into prison, ordering the jailer to keep them safely. ²⁴ Having received this order, he put them into the inner ^(A)prison and fastened their feet in ^(B)the stocks.

The Philippian Jailer Converted

^25 (C)About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them, ²⁶ and suddenly ^(D)there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken. And immediately ^(E)all the doors were opened, and ^(F)everyone's bonds were unfastened. ²⁷ When the jailer woke and saw that the prison doors were open, he drew his sword and ^(G)was about to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped.

⁵ So Peter was kept in prison, but earnest ^(A)prayer for him was made to God by the church.

Peter Is Rescued

⁶ Now when Herod was about to bring him out, on that very night, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, ^(B)bound with two chains, and sentries before the door were guarding the prison. ⁷ And behold, ^(C)an angel of the Lord ^(D)stood next to him, and a light shone in the cell. ^(E)He struck Peter on the side and woke him, saying, “Get up quickly.” And ^(F)the chains fell off his hands.

³ But ^(A)Saul was ravaging the church, and entering house after house, he ^(B)dragged off men and women and committed them to prison.
