Acts 4

4 As they spoke to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came to them, 2 being upset because they taught the people and proclaimed in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. 3 They laid hands on them, and put them in custody until the next day, for it was now evening. 4 But many of those who heard the word believed, and the number of the men came to be about five thousand.
5 In the morning, their rulers, elders, and scribes were gathered together in Jerusalem. 6 Annas the high priest was there, with Caiaphas, John, Alexander, and as many as were relatives of the high priest. 7 When they had stood Peter and John in the middle of them, they inquired, “By what power, or in what name, have you done this?”
8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “You rulers of the people and elders of Israel, 9 if we are examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed, 10 may it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, this man stands here before you whole in him. 11 He is ‘the stone which was regarded as worthless by you, the builders, which has become the head of the corner.’(A) 12 There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!”
13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and had perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marveled. They recognized that they had been with Jesus. 14 Seeing the man who was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it. 15 But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves, 16 saying, “What shall we do to these men? Because indeed a notable miracle has been done through them, as can be plainly seen by all who dwell in Jerusalem, and we can’t deny it. 17 But so that this spreads no further among the people, let’s threaten them, that from now on they don’t speak to anyone in this name.” 18 They called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.
19 But Peter and John answered them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, judge for yourselves, 20 for we can’t help telling the things which we saw and heard.”
21 When they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way to punish them, because of the people; for everyone glorified God for that which was done. 22 For the man on whom this miracle of healing was performed was more than forty years old.
23 Being let go, they came to their own company and reported all that the chief priests and the elders had said to them. 24 When they heard it, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord and said, “O Lord, you are God, who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and all that is in them; 25 who by the mouth of your servant David, said,
‘Why do the nations rage,
and the peoples plot a vain thing?
26 The kings of the earth take a stand,
and the rulers plot together,
against the Lord, and against his Christ.’[a](B)
27 “For truly,[b] both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed, 28 to do whatever your hand and your counsel foreordained to happen. 29 Now, Lord, look at their threats, and grant to your servants to speak your word with all boldness, 30 while you stretch out your hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of your holy Servant Jesus.”
31 When they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were gathered together. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.
32 The multitude of those who believed were of one heart and soul. Not one of them claimed that anything of the things which he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common. 33 With great power, the apostles gave their testimony of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. Great grace was on them all. 34 For neither was there among them any who lacked, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them, and brought the proceeds of the things that were sold, 35 and laid them at the apostles’ feet; and distribution was made to each, according as anyone had need.
36 Joses, who by the apostles was also called Barnabas (which is, being interpreted, Son of Encouragement), a Levite, a man of Cyprus by race, 37 having a field, sold it and brought the money and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

Petrus och Johannes inför Stora rådet
4 Medan Petrus och Johannes talade till folket, kom prästerna, tempelvaktens ledare och sadduceerna emot dem, 2 upprörda över att de undervisade folket och i Jesus predikade uppståndelsen från de döda. 3 De grep dem och höll dem fängslade till nästa dag, eftersom det redan var kväll. 4 Men många av dem som hade hört ordet kom till tro, och antalet män var nu omkring fem tusen.
5 Nästa dag samlades Stora rådets medlemmar i Jerusalem, både äldste och skriftlärda, 6 vidare översteprästen Hannas liksom Kajfas, Johannes och Alexander och alla som var av översteprästerlig släkt. 7 De förde fram apostlarna och började förhöra dem: "Genom vilken kraft eller i vilket namn har ni gjort detta?" 8 Då uppfylldes Petrus av den helige Ande och svarade dem: "Ni folkets rådsherrar och äldste, 9 eftersom vi i dag förhörs med anledning av en välgärning mot en sjuk man och tillfrågas hur han har blivit botad, 10 så skall ni alla och hela Israels folk veta att den här mannen står frisk framför er i kraft av Jesu Kristi, nasaréns, namn. Honom korsfäste ni, men Gud har uppväckt honom från de döda. 11 Jesus är stenen som ni byggnadsarbetare kastade bort, men som blev en hörnsten. [a] 12 Hos ingen annan finns frälsningen. Inte heller finns det under himlen något annat namn, som givits åt människor, genom vilket vi blir frälsta."
13 När de såg hur frimodiga Petrus och Johannes var och märkte att de var olärda män ur folket, blev de förvånade. Men så kände de igen dem och kom ihåg att de hade varit tillsammans med Jesus. 14 Och när de såg mannen som hade blivit botad stå där tillsammans med dem, blev de svarslösa. 15 De befallde dem att lämna rådssalen och överlade med varandra. 16 De sade: "Vad skall vi göra med de här människorna? Att ett märkligt tecken har skett genom dem, det står klart för alla som bor i Jerusalem, och det kan vi inte förneka. 17 Men för att detta inte skall spridas vidare bland folket, så låt oss varna dem för att i fortsättningen tala till någon människa i det namnet."
18 De kallade in dem och förbjöd dem att över huvud taget tala eller undervisa i Jesu namn. 19 Men Petrus och Johannes svarade dem: "Döm själva om det är rätt inför Gud att lyda er och inte Gud? 20 Vi för vår del kan inte tiga med vad vi har sett och hört." 21 Då hotade de dem än en gång och lät dem sedan gå, eftersom de för folkets skull inte kunde finna något lämpligt sätt att straffa dem. Ty alla prisade Gud för det som hade hänt. 22 Mannen som hade blivit botad genom detta tecken var nämligen över fyrtio år.
Bön i förföljelsetid
23 Sedan de hade blivit frigivna, gick de till sina egna och berättade allt vad översteprästerna och de äldste hade sagt till dem. 24 När de hörde det, ropade de endräktigt till Gud och bad: "Herre, du som har skapat himmel, jord och hav och allt som är i dem, 25 du har sagt genom den helige Ande, som talade genom vår fader David, din tjänare:
Varför upprörs hedningarna och tänker folken ut
meningslösa planer?[b]
26 Jordens kungar träder upp, och furstarna gaddar sig samman
mot Herren och hans Smorde.[c]
27 Ja, de gaddade sig verkligen samman i denna stad mot din helige tjänare Jesus, som du har smort, Herodes och Pontius Pilatus tillsammans med hedningarna och Israels stammar, 28 för att utföra vad du i din makt och genom ditt beslut hade förutbestämt. 29 Och nu, Herre, se hur de hotar oss, och hjälp dina tjänare att frimodigt predika ditt ord, 30 genom att du räcker ut din hand för att bota och låta tecken och under ske genom din helige tjänare Jesu namn." 31 När de hade slutat att be, skakades platsen där de var samlade, och de uppfylldes alla av den helige Ande och predikade frimodigt Guds ord.
Ett hjärta och en själ
32 Skaran av dem som trodde var ett hjärta och en själ, och ingen enda kallade något av det han ägde för sitt, utan de hade allt gemensamt. 33 Med stor kraft frambar apostlarna vittnesbördet om Herren Jesu uppståndelse, och stor nåd var över alla. 34 Ingen av dem led någon nöd. Alla som hade jord eller hus sålde vad de ägde och bar fram vad de hade fått för den sålda egendomen 35 och lade ner betalningen för apostlarnas fötter. Och man delade ut åt var och en efter vad han behövde. 36 Josef som var levit och född på Cypern och som apostlarna kallade Barnabas - det betyder Tröstens son - 37 ägde också en åker. Den sålde han och bar fram pengarna och lade dem för apostlarnas fötter.
