The Believers Share Their Possessions

32 Now the whole group of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one claimed private ownership of any possessions, but everything they owned was held in common.(A) 33 With great power the apostles gave their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all.(B) 34 There was not a needy person among them, for as many as owned lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold.(C) 35 They laid it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need.(D) 36 There was a Levite from Cyprus, Joseph, to whom the apostles gave the name Barnabas (which means “son of encouragement”). 37 He sold a field that belonged to him, then brought the money and laid it at the apostles’ feet.(E)

Imitating Christ’s Humility

If, then, there is any comfort in Christ, any consolation from love, any partnership in the Spirit, any tender affection and sympathy,(A) make my joy complete: be of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind.(B) Do nothing from selfish ambition or empty conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves.(C) Let each of you look not to your own interests but to the interests of others.(D)

Concerning Treasures

19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust[a] consume and where thieves break in and steal,(A) 20 but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust[b] consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal.(B) 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

The Eye

22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. So if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light,(C) 23 but if your eye is unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If, then, the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!

Serving Two Masters

24 “No one can serve two masters, for a slave will either hate the one and love the other or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.[c](D)
