¹¹ This Jesus^[a] is

¹⁰ Have you not read this scripture:

¹² When they realized that he had told this parable against them, they wanted to arrest him, but they feared the crowd. So they left him and went away.^(B)

⁴² Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the scriptures:

⁴³ “Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people that produces its fruits.^{(B) 44} The one who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces, and it will crush anyone on whom it falls.”^[b]

⁴⁵ When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they realized that he was speaking about them.

⁶ For it stands in scripture:

⁷ This honor, then, is for you who believe, but for those who do not believe,^[a]

⁸ and

They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.^(C)

⁶ He said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, says the Lord of hosts.^{(A) 7} What are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain, and he shall bring out the top stone amid shouts of ‘Grace, grace to it!’ ”^(B)

²⁰ built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone;^{[a](A) 21} in him the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord,^{(B) 22} in whom you also are built together spiritually^[b] into a dwelling place for God.

¹⁶ He will come and destroy those tenants and give the vineyard to others.” When they heard this, they said, “Heaven forbid!”^{(A) 17} But he looked at them and said, “What then does this text mean:

¹⁸ “Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces, and it will crush anyone on whom it falls.”^(C)
