Peter’s Sermon in Solomon’s Portico

11 And while he was clinging to (A)Peter and John, all the people ran together to them at the [a](B)portico called Solomon’s, full of wonder. 12 But when Peter saw this, he replied to the people, “Men of Israel, why do you marvel at this, or why do you gaze at us, as if by our own power or piety we had made him walk? 13 (C)The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, (D)the God of our fathers, has glorified His (E)Servant Jesus, whom (F)you delivered and denied in the presence of (G)Pilate, when he had (H)decided to release Him. 14 But you denied (I)the Holy and Righteous One and (J)asked for a murderer to be granted to you, 15 but put to death the (K)Author of life, whom (L)God raised from the dead, a fact to which we are (M)witnesses. 16 And on the basis of faith (N)in His name, it is [b]the name of Jesus which has strengthened this man whom you see and know; and the faith which is through Him has given him this perfect health in the presence of you all.

17 “And now, brothers, I know that you acted (O)in ignorance, just as your (P)rulers did also. 18 But the things which (Q)God announced beforehand by the mouth of all the prophets, (R)that His [c]Christ would suffer, He has thus fulfilled. 19 Therefore (S)repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that [d](T)times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord; 20 and that He may send Jesus, the [e]Christ appointed for you, 21 (U)whom heaven must receive until the [f]period of (V)restoration of all things about which (W)God spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from ancient time. 22 Moses said, ‘(X)The [g]Lord God will raise up for you a prophet [h]like me from your brothers; to Him you shall listen to everything He says to you. 23 (Y)And it will be that every (Z)soul that does not heed that prophet (AA)shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.’ 24 And likewise, (AB)all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and his successors onward, also proclaimed these days. 25 It is you who are (AC)the sons of the prophets and of the (AD)covenant which God [i]made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘(AE)And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’ 26 For you (AF)first, God (AG)raised up His [j]Servant and sent Him to bless you by turning every one of you from your wicked ways.”

Peter Speaks to the Onlookers

11 While he was holding on to Peter and John, all the people came running to them in what was called “Solomon’s Colonnade”. They were dumbfounded. 12 When Peter saw this, he told the people: “Fellow Israelis, why are you wondering about this, and why are you staring at us as if by our own power or godliness we made him walk? 13 The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—the God of our ancestors—has glorified his servant Jesus, whom you betrayed and rejected in the presence of Pilate, even though he had decided to let him go. 14 You rejected the Holy and Righteous One and asked to have a murderer released to you, 15 and you killed the source of life, whom God raised from the dead. We are witnesses to that. 16 It is his name—that is, by faith in his name—that has healed this man whom you see and know. Yes, the faith that comes through Jesus[a] has given him this perfect health in the presence of all of you.

17 “And now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance like your leaders. 18 This is how God fulfilled what he had predicted through the voice of all the prophets—that his Messiah[b] would suffer. 19 Therefore, repent and turn to him to have your sins blotted out, 20 so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord and so that he may send you Jesus, whom he appointed long ago to be the Messiah.[c] 21 He must remain in heaven until the time of universal restitution, which God announced long ago through the voice of his holy prophets. 22 In fact, Moses said,

‘The Lord[d] your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your brothers. You must listen to everything he tells you.[e] 23 Any person who will not listen to that prophet will be utterly destroyed from among the people.’[f]

24 “Indeed, all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and those who followed him, also announced these days. 25 You are the descendants of the prophets and the heirs[g] of the covenant that God made with your[h] ancestors when he told Abraham, ‘Through your descendant[i] all the families of the earth will be blessed.’[j] 26 When God raised up his servant, he sent him first to you to bless you by turning every one of you from your evil ways.”
