²² Moses said, ‘The Lord God will raise up for you ^(A)a prophet like me from your brothers. You shall listen ^(B)to him in whatever he tells you.

A New Prophet like Moses

^15 (A)“The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your brothers—it is to him you shall listen— ¹⁶ just as you desired of the Lord your God at Horeb ^(B)on the day of the assembly, when you said, ^(C)‘Let me not hear again the voice of the Lord my God or see this great fire any more, lest I die.’ ¹⁷ And the Lord said to me, ^(D)‘They are right in what they have spoken. ^18 (E)I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers. ^(F)And I will put my words in his mouth, and ^(G)he shall speak to them all that I command him. ^19 (H)And whoever will ^(I)not listen to my words that he shall speak in my name, I myself will require it of him.

³⁷ This is the Moses who said to the Israelites, ‘God will raise up for you ^(A)a prophet like me from your brothers.’

⁴ But ^(A)when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, ^(B)born ^(C)of woman, born ^(D)under the law,

⁹ And ^(A)being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him,

³⁰ And behold, two men were talking with him, Moses and Elijah, ³¹ who appeared in glory and spoke of his departure,^[a] which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. ³² Now Peter and those who were with him ^(A)were heavy with sleep, but when they became fully awake ^(B)they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. ³³ And as the men were parting from him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good that we are here. Let us make three ^(C)tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah”—^(D)not knowing what he said. ³⁴ As he was saying these things, ^(E)a cloud came and overshadowed them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. ³⁵ And ^(F)a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, ^(G)my Chosen One;^{[b] (H)}listen to him!”

⁴ And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus. ⁵ And Peter said to Jesus, ^(A)“Rabbi,^[a] it is good that we are here. Let us make three ^(B)tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.” ⁶ For ^(C)he did not know what to say, for they were terrified. ⁷ And ^(D)a cloud overshadowed them, and ^(E)a voice came out of the cloud, ^(F)“This is my beloved Son;^{[b] (G)}listen to him.”

Prologue

1 The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God ^(A)gave him ^(B)to show to his servants^[a] the things that must soon take place. ^(C)He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John,

⁹ But we see him ^(A)who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, ^(B)crowned with glory and honor ^(C)because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might ^(D)taste death ^(E)for everyone.

¹⁰ For it ^(F)was fitting that he, ^(G)for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons ^(H)to glory, should make the ^(I)founder of their salvation ^(J)perfect through suffering. ¹¹ For ^(K)he who sanctifies and ^(L)those who are sanctified ^(M)all have one source.^[a] That is why he is not ashamed to call them ^(N)brothers,^{[b] 12} saying,

¹⁴ Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise ^(T)partook of the same things, that ^(U)through death he might ^(V)destroy ^(W)the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, ¹⁵ and deliver all those who ^(X)through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery. ¹⁶ For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he ^(Y)helps the offspring of Abraham. ¹⁷ Therefore he had ^(Z)to be made like his brothers in every respect, ^(AA)so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest ^(AB)in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.
