Peter’s Sermon at Pentecost
14 But Peter, [a]taking his stand with (A)the eleven, raised his voice and declared to them: “Men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you and give heed to my words. 15 For these men are not drunk, as you suppose, (B)for it is the [b]third hour of the day; 16 but this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel:
17 ‘(C)And it shall be in the last days,’ God says,
‘That I will pour out My Spirit on all [c]mankind;
And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
And your young men shall see visions,
And your old men shall dream dreams;
18 Even on My male slaves and female slaves,
I will in those days pour out My Spirit
And they shall prophesy.
19 And I will put wonders in the sky above
And signs on the earth below,
Blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke.
20 The sun will be turned into darkness
And the moon into blood,
Before the great and awesome day of the [d]Lord comes.
21 And it will be that (D)everyone who calls on the name of the [e]Lord will be saved.’
22 “Men of Israel, listen to these words: (E)Jesus the Nazarene, (F)a man [f]attested to you by God with [g]miracles and (G)wonders and [h]signs which God did through Him in your midst, just as you yourselves know— 23 this Man, delivered over by the (H)predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, (I)you nailed to a cross by the hands of lawless men and put Him to death. 24 [i]But (J)God raised Him up again, putting an end to the [j]agony of death, since it (K)was impossible for Him to be held [k]in its power. 25 For David says of Him,
‘(L)I saw the [l]Lord continually before me;
Because He is at my right hand, so that I will not be shaken.
26 Therefore my heart was glad and my tongue exulted;
Moreover my flesh also will live in hope;
27 Because You will not forsake my soul to (M)Hades,
(N)Nor give Your [m]Holy One over to see corruption.
28 You have made known to me the ways of life;
You will make me full of gladness with Your presence.’
29 “Men, brothers, I may confidently say to you regarding the (O)patriarch David that he both (P)died and (Q)was buried, and (R)his tomb is [n]with us to this day. 30 And so, because he was (S)a prophet and knew that (T)God had sworn to him with an oath to set one of the fruit [o]of his body on his throne, 31 he looked ahead and spoke of the resurrection of the [p]Christ, that (U)He was neither forsaken to Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption. 32 This Jesus (V)God raised up again, to which we are all (W)witnesses. 33 Therefore having been exalted [q](X)to the right hand of God, and (Y)having received from the Father (Z)the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has (AA)poured out this which you both see and hear. 34 For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says:
‘(AB)The [r]Lord said to my Lord,
“Sit at My right hand,
35 Until I put Your enemies as a footstool for Your feet.”’
36 Therefore let all the (AC)house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both (AD)Lord and [s]Christ—this Jesus (AE)whom you crucified.”

Peter Addresses the Crowd
14 But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them, “Fellow Jews[a] and all who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to what I say. 15 Indeed, these are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only nine o’clock in the morning.(A) 16 No, this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel:
17 ‘In the last days it will be, God declares,
that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh,
and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
and your young men shall see visions,
and your old men shall dream dreams.(B)
18 Even upon my slaves, both men and women,
in those days I will pour out my Spirit,
and they shall prophesy.(C)
19 And I will show portents in the heaven above
and signs on the earth below,
blood, and fire, and smoky mist.
20 The sun shall be turned to darkness
and the moon to blood,
before the coming of the Lord’s great and glorious day.(D)
21 Then everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’(E)
22 “Fellow Israelites,[b] listen to what I have to say: Jesus of Nazareth,[c] a man attested to you by God with deeds of power, wonders, and signs that God did through him among you, as you yourselves know(F)— 23 this man, handed over to you according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of those outside the law.(G) 24 But God raised him up, having released him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for him to be held in its power.(H) 25 For David says concerning him,
‘I saw the Lord always before me,
for he is at my right hand so that I will not be shaken;(I)
26 therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced;
moreover, my flesh will live in hope.
27 For you will not abandon my soul to Hades
or let your Holy One experience corruption.(J)
28 You have made known to me the ways of life;
you will make me full of gladness with your presence.’
29 “Fellow Israelites,[d] I may say to you confidently of our ancestor David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.(K) 30 Since he was a prophet, he knew that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would put one of his descendants on his throne.(L) 31 Foreseeing this, David[e] spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah,[f] saying,
‘He was not abandoned to Hades,
nor did his flesh experience corruption.’(M)
32 “This Jesus God raised up, and of that all of us are witnesses.(N) 33 Being therefore exalted at[g] the right hand of God and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you see and hear.(O) 34 For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says,
‘The Lord said to my Lord,
“Sit at my right hand,(P)
35 until I make your enemies your footstool.” ’
36 “Therefore let the entire house of Israel know with certainty that God has made him both Lord and Messiah,[h] this Jesus whom you crucified.”
