⁵ He, however, shook off the creature into the fire and suffered no harm.^(A)

¹⁹ Indeed, I have given you authority to tread on snakes and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will hurt you.^(A)

¹⁸ they will pick up snakes,^[a] and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

³ Then from the smoke came locusts on the earth, and they were given authority like the authority of scorpions of the earth.^{(A) 4} They were told not to damage the grass of the earth or any green growth or any tree, but only those people who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads.^(B)

⁶ Then the Lord sent poisonous^[a] serpents among the people, and they bit the people, so that many Israelites died.^{(A) 7} The people came to Moses and said, “We have sinned by speaking against the Lord and against you; pray to the Lord to take away the serpents from us.” So Moses prayed for the people.^{(B) 8} And the Lord said to Moses, “Make a poisonous^[b] serpent, and set it on a pole, and everyone who is bitten shall look at it and live.” ⁹ So Moses made a serpent of bronze and put it upon a pole, and whenever a serpent bit someone, that person would look at the serpent of bronze and live.^(C)

²⁰ The God of peace will shortly crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.^[a](A)

¹⁴ And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up,^{(A) 15} that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.^[a](B)
