Paul Preaches in Rome

²³ After they had set a day to meet with him, they came to him at his lodgings in great numbers. From morning until evening he explained the matter to them, testifying to the kingdom of God and trying to convince them about Jesus both from the law of Moses and from the prophets.

⁸ He entered the synagogue and for three months spoke out boldly and argued persuasively about the kingdom of God.^(A)

² And Paul went in, as was his custom, and on three Sabbath days argued with them from the scriptures,^{(A) 3} explaining and proving that it was necessary for the Messiah^[a] to suffer and to rise from the dead and saying, “This is the Messiah,^[b] Jesus whom I am proclaiming to you.”^(B)

²⁸ for he powerfully refuted the Jews in public, showing by the scriptures that the Messiah^[a] is Jesus.^(A)

²² To this day I have had help from God, and so I stand here, testifying to both small and great, saying nothing but what the prophets and Moses said would take place:^{(A) 23} that the Messiah^[a] must suffer and that, by being the first to rise from the dead, he would proclaim light both to our people and to the gentiles.”^(B)

²⁶ Was it not necessary that the Messiah^[a] should suffer these things and then enter into his glory?”^{(A) 27} Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them the things about himself in all the scriptures.^(B)

⁶ And now I stand here on trial on account of my hope in the promise made by God to our ancestors,^(A)

³⁵ Then Philip began to speak, and starting with this scripture he proclaimed to him the good news about Jesus.^(A)

⁴⁴ Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you—that everything written about me in the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms must be fulfilled.”^(A)

⁹ A young man named Eutychus, who was sitting in the window, began to sink off into a deep sleep while Paul talked still longer. Overcome by sleep, he fell to the ground three floors below and was picked up dead. ¹⁰ But Paul went down and bending over him took him in his arms and said, “Do not be alarmed, for his life is in him.”^{(A) 11} Then Paul went upstairs, and after he had broken bread and eaten, he continued to converse with them until dawn; then he left.
