³⁸ After they had satisfied their hunger, they lightened the ship by throwing the wheat into the sea.^(A)

⁵ Then the sailors were afraid, and each cried to his god. They threw the cargo that was in the ship into the sea, to lighten it for them. Jonah, meanwhile, had gone down into the hold of the ship and had lain down and was fast asleep.^(A)

¹⁸ We were being pounded by the storm so violently that on the next day they began to throw the cargo overboard,^{(A) 19} and on the third day with their own hands they threw the ship’s tackle overboard.

²⁶ For what will it profit them if they gain the whole world but forfeit their life? Or what will they give in return for their life?

Do Not Worry

²⁵ “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink,^[a] or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?^(A)

12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely,^[a] and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us,^(A)
