³¹ Paul said to the centurion and the soldiers, “Unless these men stay in the ship, you cannot be saved.”

Stand Firm

¹³ But ^(A)we ought always to give thanks to God for you, ^(B)brothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you ^(C)as the firstfruits^{[a] (D)}to be saved, ^(E)through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth. ¹⁴ To this he called you through ^(F)our gospel, ^(G)so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

²¹ Since they had been without food for a long time, Paul stood up among them and said, “Men, ^(A)you should have listened to me and not have set sail from Crete and incurred this ^(B)injury and loss. ²² Yet now I urge you to ^(C)take heart, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship. ²³ For this very night ^(D)there ^(E)stood before me ^(F)an angel of the God ^(G)to whom I belong and ^(H)whom I worship, ²⁴ and he said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul; ^(I)you must stand before Caesar. And behold, ^(J)God has granted you all those who sail with you.’

^42 (A)The soldiers' plan was to kill the prisoners, lest any should swim away and escape. ⁴³ But the centurion, ^(B)wishing to save Paul, kept them from carrying out their plan. He ordered those who could swim to jump overboard first and make for the land,

¹¹ But the centurion paid more attention to ^(A)the pilot and to the owner of the ship than to what Paul said.

^37 (A)All that ^(B)the Father gives me will come to me, and ^(C)whoever comes to me I will never cast out.

^9 (A)And he took him to Jerusalem and set him on the pinnacle of the temple and said to him, “If you are ^(B)the Son of God, throw yourself down from here, ¹⁰ for it is written,

¹¹ and

¹² And Jesus answered him, “It is said, ^(E)‘You shall not ^(F)put the Lord your God to the test.’”

³⁴ And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?”^[a]

³⁵ And the angel answered her, ^(A)“The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of ^(B)the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born^[b] will be called ^(C)holy—^(D)the Son of God.

³⁶ Then ^(A)the nations that are left all around you shall know that I am the Lord; I have rebuilt the ruined places and ^(B)replanted that which was desolate. ^(C)I am the Lord; I have spoken, and I will do it.

³⁷ “Thus says the Lord God: This also ^(D)I will let the house of Israel ask me to do for them: ^(E)to increase their people like ^(F)a flock.
