¹⁹ On the third day ^(A)we threw the ship’s tackle overboard with our own hands.

⁴ So Satan answered the Lord and said, “Skin for skin! Yes, all that a man has he will give for his life.

^24 (A)For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it. ^25 (B)For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost?

³⁵ For ^(A)whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it. ³⁶ For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? ³⁷ Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

⁵ Then the mariners were afraid; and every man cried out to his god, and threw the cargo that was in the ship into the sea, to lighten ^[a]the load. But Jonah had gone down ^(A)into the lowest parts of the ship, had lain down, and was fast asleep.
