¹⁴ But not long after, a tempestuous head wind arose, called ^[a]Euroclydon.

³⁷ And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling.

^24 (A)And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep.

³ But Jonah arose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. He went down to ^(A)Joppa, and found a ship going to Tarshish; so he paid the fare, and went down into it, to go with them to ^(B)Tarshish ^(C)from the presence of the Lord.

The Storm at Sea

⁴ But ^(D)the Lord ^[a]sent out a great wind on the sea, and there was a mighty tempest on the sea, so that the ship was about to be broken up.

⁵ Then the mariners were afraid; and every man cried out to his god, and threw the cargo that was in the ship into the sea, to lighten ^[b]the load. But Jonah had gone down ^(E)into the lowest parts of the ship, had lain down, and was fast asleep.

²¹ Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and ^(A)made the sea into dry land, and the waters were ^(B)divided. ²² So ^(C)the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea on the dry ground, and the waters were ^(D)a wall to them on their right hand and on their left. ²³ And the Egyptians pursued and went after them into the midst of the sea, all Pharaoh’s horses, his chariots, and his horsemen.

²⁴ Now it came to pass, in the morning ^(E)watch, that ^(F)the Lord looked down upon the army of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and cloud, and He ^[a]troubled the army of the Egyptians. ²⁵ And He ^[b]took off their chariot wheels, so that they drove them with difficulty; and the Egyptians said, “Let us flee from the face of Israel, for the Lord ^(G)fights for them against the Egyptians.”

²⁶ Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the waters may come back upon the Egyptians, on their chariots, and on their horsemen.” ²⁷ And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and when the morning appeared, the sea ^(H)returned to its full depth, while the Egyptians were fleeing into it. So the Lord ^(I)overthrew^[c] the Egyptians in the midst of the sea.
