In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you. Living Before the World

11 Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts (C)which war against the soul, 12 (D)having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, (E)they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation.

that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience; the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things— that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, (A)homemakers, good, (B)obedient to their own husbands, (C)that the word of God may not be blasphemed.

Likewise, exhort the young men to be sober-minded, in all things showing yourself to be (D)a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, (E)incorruptibility,[a] sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of [b]you.

Exhort (F)bondservants to be obedient to their own masters, to be well pleasing in all things, not answering back, 10 not [c]pilfering, but showing all good [d]fidelity, that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.

Trained by Saving Grace

11 For (G)the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, 12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, 13 (H)looking for the blessed (I)hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,

The New Man

17 This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should (A)no longer walk as [a]the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, 18 having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the (B)blindness of their heart; 19 (C)who, being past feeling, (D)have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

20 But you have not so learned Christ, 21 if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: 22 that you (E)put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, 23 and (F)be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and that you (G)put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.

Do Not Grieve the Spirit

25 Therefore, putting away lying, (H)Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor,” for (I)we are members of one another. 26 (J)“Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, 27 (K)nor give [b]place to the devil. 28 Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather (L)let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something (M)to give him who has need. 29 (N)Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but (O)what is good for necessary [c]edification, (P)that it may impart grace to the hearers. 30 And (Q)do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 (R)Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, [d]clamor, and (S)evil speaking be put away from you, (T)with all malice. 32 And (U)be kind to one another, tenderhearted, (V)forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

Walk in Love

Therefore(W) be imitators of God as dear (X)children. And (Y)walk in love, (Z)as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God (AA)for a sweet-smelling aroma.

But fornication and all (AB)uncleanness or (AC)covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; (AD)neither filthiness, nor (AE)foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, (AF)which are not fitting, but rather (AG)giving of thanks. For [e]this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any (AH)inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not be (AI)partakers with them.

Walk in Light

For you were once darkness, but now you are (AJ)light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for (AK)the fruit of the [f]Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), 10 (AL)finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. 11 And have (AM)no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather [g]expose them. 12 (AN)For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. 13 But (AO)all things that are [h]exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. 14 Therefore He says:

(AP)“Awake, you who sleep,
Arise from the dead,
And Christ will give you light.”

Walk in Wisdom

15 (AQ)See then that you walk [i]circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, 16 (AR)redeeming the time, (AS)because the days are evil.

17 (AT)Therefore do not be unwise, but (AU)understand (AV)what the will of the Lord is. 18 And (AW)do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another (AX)in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making (AY)melody in your heart to the Lord, 20 (AZ)giving thanks always for all things to God the Father (BA)in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, 21 (BB)submitting to one another in the fear of [j]God.

Marriage—Christ and the Church(BC)

22 Wives, (BD)submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For (BE)the husband is head of the wife, as also (BF)Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. 24 Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands (BG)in everything.

25 (BH)Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and (BI)gave Himself for her,

Bondservants and Masters

(F)Bondservants, be obedient to those who are your masters according to the flesh, (G)with fear and trembling, (H)in sincerity of heart, as to Christ; (I)not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, with goodwill doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men, (J)knowing that whatever good anyone does, he will receive the same from the Lord, whether he is a slave or free.
