¹⁴ And when we all had fallen to the ground, I heard a voice speaking to me and saying in the Hebrew language, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’

⁴⁰ So when he had given him permission, Paul stood on the stairs and ^(A)motioned with his hand to the people. And when there was a great silence, he spoke to them in the ^(B)Hebrew language, saying,

² And when they heard that he spoke to them in the ^(A)Hebrew language, they kept all the more silent.

Then he said:

⁷ And ^(A)the men who journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice but seeing no one.

⁷ And I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?’ ⁸ So I answered, ‘Who are You, Lord?’ And He said to me, ‘I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom you are persecuting.’

⁹ “And ^(A)those who were with me indeed saw the light ^[a]and were afraid, but they did not hear the voice of Him who spoke to me.

⁴ Then he fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, ^(A)why are you persecuting Me?”

⁵ And he said, “Who are You, Lord?”

Then the Lord said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. ^[a]It is hard for you to kick against the goads.”

²² Or do we ^(A)provoke the Lord to jealousy? ^(B)Are we stronger than He?

² “Behold, I will make Jerusalem ^(A)a cup of ^[a]drunkenness to all the surrounding peoples, when they lay siege against Judah and Jerusalem.

⁸ For thus says the Lord of hosts: “He sent Me after glory, to the nations which plunder you; for he who ^(A)touches you touches the ^[a]apple of His eye.
