⁸ Paul argued in his defense, “Neither ^(A)against ^(B)the law of the Jews, nor against the temple, nor ^(C)against Caesar have I committed any offense.”

¹⁷ After three days he called together the local leaders of the Jews, and when they had gathered, he said to them, “Brothers, ^(A)though I had done nothing against our people or ^(B)the customs of our fathers, yet I was delivered as a prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans.

¹² and ^(A)they did not find me disputing with anyone or stirring up a crowd, either in the temple or in the synagogues or in the city.

Paul's Change of Plans

¹² For our boast is this, ^(A)the testimony of our conscience, that we behaved in the world with simplicity^[a] and ^(B)godly sincerity, ^(C)not by earthly wisdom but by the grace of God, and supremely so toward you.

¹⁸ Jeremiah also said to King Zedekiah, “What wrong have I done to you or your servants or this people, ^(A)that you have put me in prison?

²¹ And they said to him, “We have received no letters from Judea about you, and none of ^(A)the brothers coming here has reported or spoken any evil about you.

¹⁰ But Paul said, “I am standing before Caesar's ^(A)tribunal, where I ought to be tried. To the Jews I have done no wrong, as you yourself know very well.

¹⁷ Now ^(A)after several years ^(B)I came to bring alms to ^(C)my nation and to present ^(D)offerings. ¹⁸ While I was doing this, they found me ^(E)purified in the temple, without any crowd or tumult. But ^(F)some Jews from Asia— ^19 (G)they ought to be here before you and to make an accusation, should they have anything against me. ²⁰ Or else let these men themselves say what wrongdoing they found when I stood before the council, ²¹ other than this one thing ^(H)that I cried out while standing among them: ‘It is with respect to the resurrection of the dead that I am on trial before you this day.’”
