⁵ “So,” said he, “let the men of authority among you go down with me, and if there is anything wrong about the man, let them bring charges against him.”

²⁵ But I found that ^(A)he had done nothing deserving death. And ^(B)as he himself appealed to ^(C)the emperor, I decided to go ahead and send him.

¹⁸ When the accusers stood up, they brought no charge in his case of such evils as I supposed. ¹⁹ Rather they ^(A)had certain points of dispute with him about their own religion and about ^(B)a certain Jesus, who was dead, but whom Paul asserted to be alive.

^16 (A)I answered them that it was not the custom of the Romans to give up anyone ^(B)before the accused met the accusers face to face and had opportunity to make his defense concerning the charge laid against him.

^29 (A)So Pilate went outside to them and said, “What accusation do you bring against this man?” ³⁰ They answered him, “If this man were not doing evil, we would not have delivered him over to you.”

⁸ By examining him yourself you will be able to find out from him about everything of which we accuse him.”

^30 (A)And when it was disclosed to me ^(B)that there would be a plot against the man, I sent him to you at once, ^(C)ordering his accusers also to state before you what they have against him.”

¹⁴ But when Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, “If it were a matter of wrongdoing or vicious ^(A)crime, O Jews, I would have reason to accept your complaint.

¹¹ See, my father, see the corner of your robe in my hand. For by the fact that I cut off the corner of your robe and did not kill you, you may know and see that ^(A)there is no wrong or treason in my hands. I have not sinned against you, though ^(B)you hunt my life to take it. ^12 (C)May the Lord judge between me and you, may the Lord avenge me against you, but my hand shall not be against you.
