²⁵ And as he discussed justice, self-control, and the coming judgment, Felix became frightened and said, “Go away for the present; when I have an opportunity, I will send for you.”^(A)

⁸ And when he comes, he will prove the world wrong about^[a] sin and righteousness and judgment:

⁶ and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with endurance, and endurance with godliness,

¹⁵ but in your hearts sanctify Christ as Lord. Always be ready to make your defense to anyone who demands from you an accounting for the hope that is in you,^(A)

²³ gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things.

⁴² He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one ordained by God as judge of the living and the dead.^(A)

The Dead Are Judged

¹¹ Then I saw a great white throne and the one who sat on it; the earth and the heaven fled from his^[a] presence, and no place was found for them.^{(A) 12} And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Also another book was opened, the book of life. And the dead were judged according to their works, as recorded in the books.^{(B) 13} And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and all were judged according to what they had done.^{(C) 14} Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire,^{(D) 15} and anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.

⁴ They are surprised that you no longer join them in the same excesses of dissipation, and so they blaspheme.^{[a](A) 5} But they will have to give an accounting to him who stands ready to judge the living and the dead.^(B)

¹⁰ The children of God and the children of the devil are revealed in this way: all who do not do what is right are not from God, nor are those who do not love a brother or sister.^(A)

⁷ Little children,^[a] let no one deceive you. Everyone who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous.
