⁶ Then Paul, knowing that some of them were Sadducees^(A) and the others Pharisees, called out in the Sanhedrin, “My brothers,^(B) I am a Pharisee,^(C) descended from Pharisees. I stand on trial because of the hope of the resurrection of the dead.”^(D)

²¹ unless it was this one thing I shouted as I stood in their presence: ‘It is concerning the resurrection of the dead that I am on trial before you today.’”^(A)

¹⁵ and I have the same hope in God as these men themselves have, that there will be a resurrection^(A) of both the righteous and the wicked.^(B)

⁵ circumcised^(A) on the eighth day, of the people of Israel,^(B) of the tribe of Benjamin,^(C) a Hebrew of Hebrews; in regard to the law, a Pharisee;^(D)

⁵ They have known me for a long time^(A) and can testify, if they are willing, that I conformed to the strictest sect^(B) of our religion, living as a Pharisee.^{(C) 6} And now it is because of my hope^(D) in what God has promised our ancestors^(E) that I am on trial today. ⁷ This is the promise our twelve tribes^(F) are hoping to see fulfilled as they earnestly serve God day and night.^(G) King Agrippa, it is because of this hope that these Jews are accusing me.^{(H) 8} Why should any of you consider it incredible that God raises the dead?^(I)

²⁰ For this reason I have asked to see you and talk with you. It is because of the hope of Israel^(A) that I am bound with this chain.”^(B)

Marriage at the Resurrection^(A)

²³ That same day the Sadducees,^(B) who say there is no resurrection,^(C) came to him with a question.

⁵ as the high priest and all the Council^(A) can themselves testify. I even obtained letters from them to their associates^(B) in Damascus,^(C) and went there to bring these people as prisoners to Jerusalem to be punished.

¹⁶ “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves.^(A) Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.^(B)
