³⁴ The governor read the letter and asked what province he was from. Learning that he was from Cilicia,^(A)

³⁹ Paul answered, “I am a Jew, from Tarsus^(A) in Cilicia,^(B) a citizen of no ordinary city. Please let me speak to the people.”

Paul’s Trial Before Festus

25 Three days after arriving in the province, Festus^(A) went up from Caesarea^(B) to Jerusalem,

⁴¹ He went through Syria^(A) and Cilicia,^(B) strengthening the churches.^(C)

⁹ Opposition arose, however, from members of the Synagogue of the Freedmen (as it was called)—Jews of Cyrene^(A) and Alexandria as well as the provinces of Cilicia^(B) and Asia^(C)—who began to argue with Stephen.

⁹ At once the royal secretaries were summoned—on the twenty-third day of the third month, the month of Sivan. They wrote out all Mordecai’s orders to the Jews, and to the satraps, governors and nobles of the 127 provinces stretching from India to Cush.^[a](A) These orders were written in the script of each province and the language of each people and also to the Jews in their own script and language.^(B)
