⁵ as ^(A)the high priest and ^(B)the whole council of elders can bear me witness. From them I received letters to ^(C)the brothers, and I journeyed toward Damascus to take those also who were there and bring them in bonds to Jerusalem to be punished.

The Conversion of Saul

9 But Saul, ^(A)still ^(B)breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to ^(C)the high priest ² and asked him for letters ^(D)to the synagogues at Damascus, so that if he found any belonging to ^(E)the Way, men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.

Jesus Before the Council

^66 (A)When day came, ^(B)the assembly of the elders of the people gathered together, both chief priests and scribes. And they led him away to their ^(C)council, and they ^(D)said,

²¹ And when they heard this, ^(A)they entered the temple ^(B)at daybreak and began to teach.

Now when the high priest came, and those who were with him, they called together the council, all the senate of the people of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.

^14 (A)Do not neglect the gift you have, which was given you ^(B)by prophecy when the council of elders ^(C)laid their hands on you.

³ For ^(A)I could wish that I myself were ^(B)accursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my brothers,^[a] my kinsmen ^(C)according to the flesh. ⁴ They are ^(D)Israelites, and to them belong ^(E)the adoption, ^(F)the glory, ^(G)the covenants, ^(H)the giving of the law, ^(I)the worship, and ^(J)the promises.

²¹ And they said to him, “We have received no letters from Judea about you, and none of ^(A)the brothers coming here has reported or spoken any evil about you.

Paul Tells of His Conversion

¹² “In this connection ^(A)I journeyed to Damascus with the authority and commission of the chief priests.

^10 (A)And I did so in Jerusalem. I not only locked up many of the saints in prison after receiving authority ^(B)from the chief priests, but ^(C)when they were put to death I cast my vote against them.
