²² And now, behold, I am going to Jerusalem, constrained ^(A)by^[a] the Spirit, not knowing what will happen to me there,

¹⁴ yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For ^(A)you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.

¹⁴ For the love of Christ ^(A)controls us, because we have concluded this: that ^(B)one has died for all, therefore all have died;

^14 (A)since I know that the putting off of my body will be soon, ^(B)as our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me.

Jesus Foretells His Death a Third Time

^31 (A)And taking the twelve, he said to them, “See, ^(B)we are going up to Jerusalem, and ^(C)everything that is written about the Son of Man by the prophets will be accomplished. ³² For he will be ^(D)delivered over to the Gentiles and will be ^(E)mocked and shamefully treated and ^(F)spit upon. ³³ And after flogging him, they will kill him, and on ^(G)the third day he will rise.”

¹¹ And coming to us, he ^(A)took Paul's belt and bound his own feet and hands and said, ^(B)“Thus says the Holy Spirit, ^(C)‘This is how the Jews^[a] at Jerusalem will bind the man who owns this belt and ^(D)deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.’” ¹² When we heard this, we and the people there ^(E)urged him not to go up to Jerusalem. ¹³ Then Paul answered, ^(F)“What are you doing, weeping and breaking my heart? For ^(G)I am ready not only to be imprisoned but even to die in Jerusalem ^(H)for the name of the Lord Jesus.” ¹⁴ And since he would not be persuaded, ^(I)we ceased and said, ^(J)“Let the will of the Lord be done.”

¹⁶ For Paul had decided to sail past Ephesus, so that he might not have to spend time in Asia, for he was hastening ^(A)to be at Jerusalem, if possible, ^(B)on the day of Pentecost.

A Riot at Ephesus

²¹ Now after these events Paul resolved in the Spirit ^(A)to pass through ^(B)Macedonia and Achaia and ^(C)go to Jerusalem, saying, “After I have been there, ^(D)I must also see Rome.”

¹⁶ Now while Paul was waiting for them at Athens, his spirit was ^(A)provoked within him as he saw that the city was ^(B)full of idols.
