¹⁸ And when they came to him, he said to them:

^(A)“You yourselves know ^(B)how I lived among you the whole time ^(C)from the first day that I set foot in Asia,

⁵ because ^(A)our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and ^(B)in the Holy Spirit and with full ^(C)conviction. You know ^(D)what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake. ⁶ And ^(E)you became imitators of us ^(F)and of the Lord, for ^(G)you received the word in much affliction, ^(H)with the ^(I)joy of the Holy Spirit,

Paul in Ephesus

19 And it happened that while ^(A)Apollos was at Corinth, Paul passed ^(B)through the inland^[a] country and came to Ephesus. There he found some disciples.

¹⁹ And they came to ^(A)Ephesus, and he left them there, but ^(B)he himself went into the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews.

¹⁰ This continued for ^(A)two years, so that ^(B)all the residents of Asia heard the word of the Lord, both Jews and Greeks.

⁷ For you yourselves know ^(A)how you ought to imitate us, because ^(B)we were not idle when we were with you, ⁸ nor did we eat anyone's bread without paying for it, but ^(C)with toil and labor we worked night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you. ⁹ It was ^(D)not because we do not have that right, but to give you in ourselves ^(E)an example to imitate.

Paul's Ministry to the Thessalonians

2 For you yourselves know, brothers,^[a] that our ^(A)coming to you ^(B)was not in vain. ² But though we had already suffered and been shamefully treated ^(C)at Philippi, as you know, ^(D)we had boldness in our God ^(E)to declare to you the gospel of God in the midst of much ^(F)conflict. ³ For ^(G)our appeal does not spring from ^(H)error or ^(I)impurity or ^(J)any attempt to deceive, ⁴ but just as we have been approved by God ^(K)to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not ^(L)to please man, but to please God ^(M)who tests our hearts. ^5 (N)For we never came with words of flattery,^[b] as you know, nor with a pretext for greed—^(O)God is witness. ^6 (P)Nor did we seek glory from people, whether from you or from others, ^(Q)though we could have made ^(R)demands as ^(S)apostles of Christ. ⁷ But we were ^(T)gentle^[c] among you, ^(U)like a nursing mother taking care of her own children. ⁸ So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God ^(V)but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us.

⁹ For you remember, brothers, ^(W)our labor and toil: we ^(X)worked night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you, while we proclaimed to you the gospel of God. ¹⁰ You are witnesses, and ^(Y)God also, ^(Z)how holy and righteous and blameless was our conduct toward you believers.

³ We ^(A)put no obstacle in anyone's way, so that no fault may be found with our ministry, ⁴ but ^(B)as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: ^(C)by great endurance, ^(D)in afflictions, ^(E)hardships, calamities, ^5 (F)beatings, imprisonments, ^(G)riots, labors, sleepless nights, hunger; ^6 (H)by purity, ^(I)knowledge, patience, kindness, ^(J)the Holy Spirit, ^(K)genuine love; ⁷ by ^(L)truthful speech, and ^(M)the power of God; with ^(N)the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; ⁸ through honor and dishonor, ^(O)through slander and praise. We are treated as impostors, and yet are true; ⁹ as unknown, and ^(P)yet well known; ^(Q)as dying, and behold, we live; ^(R)as punished, and yet not killed; ^10 (S)as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; ^(T)as poor, yet making many rich; ^(U)as having nothing, ^(V)yet possessing everything.
