2 And when the days of the Pentecost were accomplished, they were all together in one place:
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a mighty wind coming, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.
3 And there appeared to them parted tongues as it were of fire, and it sat upon every one of them:
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they began to speak with divers tongues, according as the Holy Ghost gave them to speak.
5 Now there were dwelling at Jerusalem, Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
6 And when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded in mind, because that every man heard them speak in his own tongue.
7 And they were all amazed, and wondered, saying: Behold, are not all these, that speak, Galileans?
8 And how have we heard, every man our own tongue wherein we were born?
9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and inhabitants of Mesopotamia, Judea, and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,
10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, Egypt, and the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome,
11 Jews also, and proselytes, Cretes, and Arabians: we have heard them speak in our own tongues the wonderful works of God.
12 And they were all astonished, and wondered, saying one to another: What meaneth this?
13 But others mocking, said: These men are full of new wine.
14 But Peter standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and spoke to them: Ye men of Judea, and all you that dwell in Jerusalem, be this known to you, and with your ears receive my words.
15 For these are not drunk, as you suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day:
16 But this is that which was spoken of by the prophet Joel:
17 And it shall come to pass, in the last days, (saith the Lord,) I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.
18 And upon my servants indeed, and upon my handmaids will I pour out in those days of my spirit, and they shall prophesy.
19 And I will shew wonders in the heaven above, and signs on the earth beneath: blood and fire, and vapour of smoke.
20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and manifest day of the Lord come.
21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord, shall be saved.
22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you, by miracles, and wonders, and signs, which God did by him, in the midst of you, as you also know:
23 This same being delivered up, by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, you by the hands of wicked men have crucified and slain.
24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the sorrows of hell, as it was impossible that he should be holden by it.
25 For David saith concerning him: I foresaw the Lord before my face: because he is at my right hand, that I may not be moved.
26 For this my heart hath been glad, and my tongue hath rejoiced: moreover my flesh also shall rest in hope.
27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, nor suffer thy Holy One to see corruption.
28 Thou hast made known to me the ways of life: thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.
29 Ye men, brethren, let me freely speak to you of the patriarch David; that he died, and was buried; and his sepulchre is with us to this present day.
30 Whereas therefore he was a prophet, and knew that God hath sworn to him with an oath, that of the fruit of his loins one should sit upon his throne.
31 Foreseeing this, he spoke of the resurrection of Christ. For neither was he left in hell, neither did his flesh see corruption.
32 This Jesus hath God raised again, whereof all we are witnesses.
33 Being exalted therefore by the right hand of God, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath poured forth this which you see and hear.
34 For David ascended not into heaven; but he himself said: The Lord said to my Lord, sit thou on my right hand,
35 Until I make thy enemies thy footstool.
36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know most certainly, that God hath made both Lord and Christ, this same Jesus, whom you have crucified.
37 Now when they had heard these things, they had compunction in their heart, and said to Peter, and to the rest of the apostles: What shall we do, men and brethren?
38 But Peter said to them: Do penance, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of your sins: and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
39 For the promise is to you, and to your children, and to all that are far off, whomsoever the Lord our God shall call.
40 And with very many other words did he testify and exhort them, saying: Save yourselves from this perverse generation.
41 They therefore that received his word, were baptized; and there were added in that day about three thousand souls.
42 And they were persevering in the doctrine of the apostles, and in the communication of the breaking of bread, and in prayers.
43 And fear came upon every soul: many wonders also and signs were done by the apostles in Jerusalem, and there was great fear in all.
44 And all they that believed, were together, and had all things common.
45 Their possessions and goods they sold, and divided them to all, according as every one had need.
46 And continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they took their meat with gladness and simplicity of heart;
47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord increased daily together such as should be saved.

The Holy Spirit Comes at Pentecost
2 When the day of Pentecost(A) came, they were all together(B) in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.(C) 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit(D) and began to speak in other tongues[a](E) as the Spirit enabled them.
5 Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing(F) Jews from every nation under heaven. 6 When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. 7 Utterly amazed,(G) they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans?(H) 8 Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? 9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia,(I) Pontus(J) and Asia,[b](K) 10 Phrygia(L) and Pamphylia,(M) Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene;(N) visitors from Rome 11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!” 12 Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?”
13 Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much wine.”(O)
Peter Addresses the Crowd
14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. 15 These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning!(P) 16 No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:
17 “‘In the last days, God says,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.(Q)
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,(R)
your young men will see visions,
your old men will dream dreams.
18 Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days,
and they will prophesy.(S)
19 I will show wonders in the heavens above
and signs on the earth below,(T)
blood and fire and billows of smoke.
20 The sun will be turned to darkness
and the moon to blood(U)
before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.
21 And everyone who calls
on the name of the Lord(V) will be saved.’[c](W)
22 “Fellow Israelites, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth(X) was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs,(Y) which God did among you through him,(Z) as you yourselves know. 23 This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge;(AA) and you, with the help of wicked men,[d] put him to death by nailing him to the cross.(AB) 24 But God raised him from the dead,(AC) freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.(AD) 25 David said about him:
“‘I saw the Lord always before me.
Because he is at my right hand,
I will not be shaken.
26 Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices;
my body also will rest in hope,
27 because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead,
you will not let your holy one see decay.(AE)
28 You have made known to me the paths of life;
you will fill me with joy in your presence.’[e](AF)
29 “Fellow Israelites,(AG) I can tell you confidently that the patriarch(AH) David died and was buried,(AI) and his tomb is here(AJ) to this day. 30 But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne.(AK) 31 Seeing what was to come, he spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, that he was not abandoned to the realm of the dead, nor did his body see decay.(AL) 32 God has raised this Jesus to life,(AM) and we are all witnesses(AN) of it. 33 Exalted(AO) to the right hand of God,(AP) he has received from the Father(AQ) the promised Holy Spirit(AR) and has poured out(AS) what you now see and hear. 34 For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said,
“‘The Lord said to my Lord:
“Sit at my right hand
35 until I make your enemies
a footstool for your feet.”’[f](AT)
36 “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord(AU) and Messiah.”(AV)
37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”(AW)
38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized,(AX) every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.(AY) And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.(AZ) 39 The promise is for you and your children(BA) and for all who are far off(BB)—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
40 With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.”(BC) 41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number(BD) that day.
The Fellowship of the Believers
42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching(BE) and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread(BF) and to prayer.(BG) 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles.(BH) 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common.(BI) 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need.(BJ) 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts.(BK) They broke bread(BL) in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people.(BM) And the Lord added to their number(BN) daily those who were being saved.

2 În Ziua(A) Cincizecimii, erau(B) toţi împreună în acelaşi loc. 2 Deodată, a venit din cer un sunet ca vâjâitul unui vânt puternic şi a(C) umplut toată casa unde şedeau ei. 3 Nişte limbi ca de foc au fost văzute împărţindu-se printre ei şi s-au aşezat câte una pe fiecare din ei. 4 Şi toţi s-au(D) umplut de Duh Sfânt şi au început să vorbească(E) în alte limbi, după cum le dădea Duhul să vorbească. 5 Şi se aflau atunci în Ierusalim iudei, oameni cucernici din toate neamurile care sunt sub cer. 6 Când s-a auzit sunetul acela, mulţimea s-a adunat şi a rămas încremenită, pentru că fiecare îi auzea vorbind în limba lui. 7 Toţi se mirau, se minunau şi ziceau unii către alţii: „Toţi aceştia care vorbesc nu sunt galileeni(F)? 8 Cum dar îi auzim vorbind fiecăruia din noi în limba noastră, în care ne-am născut? 9 Parţi, mezi, elamiţi, locuitori din Mesopotamia, Iudeea, Capadocia, Pont, Asia, 10 Frigia, Pamfilia, Egipt, părţile Libiei dinspre Cirene, oaspeţi din Roma, iudei sau prozeliţi, 11 cretani şi arabi, îi auzim vorbind în limbile noastre lucrurile minunate ale lui Dumnezeu!” 12 Toţi erau uimiţi, nu ştiau ce să creadă şi ziceau unii către alţii: „Ce vrea să zică aceasta?” 13 Dar alţii îşi băteau joc şi ziceau: „Sunt plini de must!” 14 Atunci, Petru s-a sculat în picioare cu cei unsprezece, a ridicat glasul şi le-a zis: „Bărbaţi iudei şi voi toţi cei care locuiţi în Ierusalim, să ştiţi lucrul acesta şi ascultaţi cuvintele mele! 15 Oamenii aceştia nu sunt beţi, cum vă închipuiţi voi, căci(G) nu este decât al treilea ceas din zi. 16 Ci aceasta este ce a fost spus prin prorocul Ioel: 17 ‘În(H) zilele de pe urmă, zice Dumnezeu, voi(I) turna din Duhul Meu peste orice făptură; feciorii voştri şi fetele(J) voastre vor proroci, tinerii voştri vor avea vedenii şi bătrânii voştri vor visa visuri! 18 Da, chiar şi peste robii Mei şi peste roabele Mele voi turna, în zilele acelea, din Duhul Meu şi(K) vor proroci. 19 Voi(L) face să se arate semne sus în cer şi minuni jos pe pământ, sânge, foc şi un vârtej de fum; 20 soarele(M) se va preface în întuneric, şi luna în sânge înainte ca să vină ziua Domnului, ziua aceea mare şi strălucită. 21 Atunci, oricine(N) va chema Numele Domnului va fi mântuit.’
Cuvântarea lui Petru
22 Bărbaţi israeliţi, ascultaţi cuvintele acestea! Pe Isus din Nazaret, om adeverit de Dumnezeu înaintea voastră prin(O) minunile, semnele şi lucrările pline de putere pe care le-a făcut Dumnezeu prin El în mijlocul vostru, după cum bine ştiţi, 23 pe Omul acesta, dat(P) în mâinile(Q) voastre, după sfatul hotărât şi după ştiinţa mai dinainte a lui Dumnezeu, voi L-aţi răstignit şi L-aţi omorât prin mâna celor fărădelege. 24 Dar(R) Dumnezeu L-a înviat, dezlegându-I legăturile morţii, pentru că nu era cu putinţă să fie ţinut de ea. 25 Căci David zice despre El:
‘Eu aveam(S) totdeauna pe Domnul înaintea mea, pentru că El este la dreapta mea, ca să nu mă clatin.
26 De aceea, mi se bucură inima şi mi se veseleşte limba; chiar şi trupul mi se va odihni în nădejde, 27 căci nu-mi vei lăsa sufletul în Locuinţa morţilor şi nu vei îngădui ca Sfântul Tău să vadă putrezirea. 28 Mi-ai făcut cunoscut căile vieţii şi Mă vei umple de bucurie cu starea Ta de faţă.’ 29 Cât despre(T) patriarhul David, să-mi fie îngăduit, fraţilor, să vă spun fără sfială că a murit şi a fost îngropat, şi mormântul lui este în mijlocul nostru până în ziua de azi. 30 Fiindcă David era proroc şi(U) ştia că Dumnezeu îi făgăduise cu jurământ că va ridica pe unul din urmaşii săi pe scaunul lui de domnie, 31 despre învierea lui Hristos a prorocit şi a vorbit el, când a zis că(V) sufletul lui nu va fi lăsat în Locuinţa morţilor şi trupul lui nu va vedea putrezirea. 32 Dumnezeu a înviat pe(W) acest Isus, şi noi(X) toţi suntem martori ai Lui. 33 Şi acum, odată ce S-a înălţat(Y) prin dreapta lui Dumnezeu şi a primit(Z) de la Tatăl făgăduinţa Duhului Sfânt(AA), a turnat ce vedeţi şi auziţi. 34 Căci David nu s-a suit în ceruri, ci el singur zice: ‘Domnul a zis(AB) Domnului meu: «Şezi la dreapta Mea 35 până ce voi pune pe vrăjmaşii Tăi sub picioarele Tale».’ 36 Să ştie bine dar, toată casa lui Israel, că Dumnezeu a(AC) făcut Domn şi Hristos pe acest Isus, pe care L-aţi răstignit voi.”
Cei dintâi creştini
37 După ce au auzit aceste cuvinte, ei au(AD) rămas străpunşi în inimă şi au zis lui Petru şi celorlalţi apostoli: „Fraţilor, ce să facem?” 38 „Pocăiţi-vă(AE)”, le-a zis Petru, „şi fiecare din voi să fie botezat în Numele lui Isus Hristos, spre iertarea păcatelor voastre, apoi, veţi primi darul Sfântului Duh. 39 Căci făgăduinţa aceasta este pentru voi, pentru(AF) copiii voştri şi pentru(AG) toţi cei ce sunt departe acum, în oricât de mare număr îi va chema Domnul, Dumnezeul nostru.” 40 Şi, cu multe alte cuvinte, mărturisea, îi îndemna şi zicea: „Mântuiţi-vă din mijlocul acestui neam ticălos”. 41 Cei ce au primit propovăduirea lui au fost botezaţi, şi în ziua aceea, la numărul ucenicilor s-au adăugat aproape trei mii de suflete. 42 Ei(AH) stăruiau în învăţătura apostolilor, în legătura frăţească, în frângerea pâinii şi în rugăciuni. 43 Fiecare era plin de frică, şi prin apostoli se făceau multe(AI) minuni şi semne. 44 Toţi cei ce credeau erau împreună la un loc şi aveau(AJ) toate de obşte. 45 Îşi vindeau ogoarele şi averile, şi banii îi împărţeau(AK) între toţi, după nevoile fiecăruia. 46 Toţi(AL) împreună erau nelipsiţi de la Templu în(AM) fiecare zi, frângeau(AN) pâinea acasă şi luau hrana cu bucurie şi curăţie de inimă. 47 Ei lăudau pe Dumnezeu şi erau plăcuţi(AO) înaintea întregului norod. Şi Domnul(AP) adăuga în fiecare zi la numărul lor pe cei ce erau mântuiţi.
