³⁰ Since he was a prophet, he knew that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would put one of his descendants on his throne.^(A)

The Righteous Branch and the Covenant with David

¹⁴ The days are surely coming, says the Lord, when I will fulfill the promise I made to the house of Israel and the house of Judah.^{(A) 15} In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch to spring up for David, and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land.^(B)

¹¹ from the time that I appointed judges over my people Israel, and I will give you rest from all your enemies. Moreover, the Lord declares to you that the Lord will make you a house.^{(A) 12} When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come forth from your body, and I will establish his kingdom.^{(B) 13} He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.^{(C) 14} I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to me. When he commits iniquity, I will punish him with a rod such as mortals use, with blows inflicted by human beings.^{(D) 15} But I will not take^[a] my steadfast love from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away from before you.^{(E) 16} Your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me;^[b] your throne shall be established forever.”^(F)

²¹ because no prophecy ever came by human will, but men and women moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.^[a](A)

³¹ And now, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus.^{(A) 32} He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his ancestor David.^{(B) 33} He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”^(C)
