³ Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them.

¹¹ “I baptize you with^[a] water for repentance, but the one who is coming after me is more powerful than I, and I am not worthy to carry his sandals. He will baptize you with^[b] the Holy Spirit and fire.^(A)

²⁹ Is not my word like fire, says the Lord, and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?^(A)

³² And John testified, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him.^{(A) 33} I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’^(B)

³² They said to each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us^[a] while he was talking to us on the road, while he was opening the scriptures to us?”

⁶ And the Lord said, “Look, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is only the beginning of what they will do; nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them.^(A)

¹¹ Cretans and Arabs—in our own languages we hear them speaking about God’s deeds of power.”

⁴ All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.^(A)

The Messages of the Three Angels

⁶ Then I saw another angel flying in midheaven, with an eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live^[a] on the earth—to every nation and tribe and language and people.^(A)
