¹⁵ For these people are not drunk, as you suppose, ^(A)since it is only the third hour of the day.^[a]

⁵ For you are all ^(A)children^[a] of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness. ⁶ So then ^(B)let us not sleep, as others do, but let us ^(C)keep awake and ^(D)be sober. ⁷ For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, ^(E)are drunk at night. ⁸ But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, ^(F)having put on the breastplate of ^(G)faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation.

³ And going out about the third hour he saw others standing idle in the marketplace,

¹⁵ But Hannah answered, “No, my lord, I am a woman troubled in spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but ^(A)I have been pouring out my soul before the Lord.
