Acts 1:15-26
Legacy Standard Bible
15 And in those days, Peter stood up in the midst of (A)the brothers (a crowd of about 120 [a]persons was there together), and said, 16 “Men, brothers, (B)the Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit foretold by the mouth of David concerning Judas, (C)who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus. 17 For he was (D)counted among us and received his share in (E)this ministry.” 18 (Now this man (F)acquired a field with (G)the price of his unrighteousness, and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his intestines gushed out. 19 And it became known to all who were living in Jerusalem; so that in (H)their own language that field was called Hakeldama, that is, Field of Blood.) 20 “For it is written in the book of Psalms,
‘(I)Let his residence be made desolate,
And let no one dwell in it’;
and,
21 Therefore it is necessary that of the men who have accompanied us all the time that (K)the Lord Jesus went in and out [c]among us— 22 (L)beginning [d]with the baptism of John until the day that He (M)was taken up from us—one of these must become a (N)witness with us of His resurrection.” 23 And they put forward two men, Joseph called Barsabbas (who was also called Justus), and (O)Matthias. 24 And they (P)prayed and said, “You, Lord, (Q)who know the hearts of all men, show which one of these two You have chosen 25 to take the place of (R)this ministry and (S)apostleship from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place.” 26 And they [e](T)cast lots for them, and the lot fell [f]to (U)Matthias; and he was [g]added to (V)the eleven apostles.

Acts 1:15-26
Evangelical Heritage Version
15 In those days, when the group there numbered about 120 people, Peter stood up among the brothers[a] and said, 16 “Gentlemen,[b] brothers, the Scripture[c] had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke long ago through the mouth of David about Judas, who became a guide for those who arrested Jesus. 17 Judas was counted as one of us and was given a share in this ministry.
18 “Now this man acquired a field with what he was paid for his wicked act. When he fell headfirst, his middle burst open, and all his intestines spilled out. 19 This became known to all the residents of Jerusalem, and so in their own language that field was called Akeldema, which means Field of Blood. 20 Indeed, it is written in the book of Psalms:
May his residence be deserted.
Let there be no one dwelling in it.[d]
And,
let someone else take his position.[e]
21 “Therefore it is necessary that one of the men who accompanied us during the entire time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, 22 beginning from his baptism by John until the day Jesus was taken up from us, become a witness with us of his resurrection.”
23 They proposed two: Joseph called Barsabbas (who was also called Justus) and Matthias. 24 Then they prayed, “Lord, you know everyone’s heart. Show us which of these two you have chosen 25 to take the place in this apostolic ministry from which Judas turned away to go to his own place.”[f]
26 Then they assigned lots for them, and the lot fell to Matthias. So he was counted with the eleven apostles.[g]
