³⁵ But when the town clerk had quieted the crowd, he said, “Citizens of Ephesus, who is there who does not know that the city of the Ephesians is the temple keeper of the great Artemis and of the statue that fell from heaven?^(A)

¹⁰ and every kind of wicked deception for those who are perishing because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.^{(A) 11} For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion, leading them to believe what is false,^(B)

² through the hypocrisy of liars whose consciences are seared with a hot iron.

¹² remember that you were at that time without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.^(A)

¹² Barnabas they called Zeus, and Paul they called Hermes, because he was the chief speaker. ¹³ The priest of Zeus, whose temple was just outside the city,^[a] brought oxen and garlands to the gates; he and the crowds wanted to offer sacrifice.

²⁶ You also see and hear that not only in Ephesus but in almost the whole of Asia this Paul has persuaded and drawn away a considerable number of people by saying that gods made with hands are not gods.^(A)

¹⁹ When they reached Ephesus, he left them there, but first he himself went into the synagogue and had a discussion with the Jews.
