³⁵ The city clerk quieted the crowd and said: “Fellow Ephesians,^(A) doesn’t all the world know that the city of Ephesus is the guardian of the temple of the great Artemis and of her image, which fell from heaven?

¹⁰ and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing.^(A) They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.^{(B) 11} For this reason God sends them^(C) a powerful delusion^(D) so that they will believe the lie^(E)

² Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.^(A)

¹² remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners^(A) to the covenants of the promise,^(B) without hope^(C) and without God in the world.

¹² Barnabas they called Zeus, and Paul they called Hermes because he was the chief speaker.^{(A) 13} The priest of Zeus, whose temple was just outside the city, brought bulls and wreaths to the city gates because he and the crowd wanted to offer sacrifices to them.

²⁶ And you see and hear how this fellow Paul has convinced and led astray large numbers of people here in Ephesus^(A) and in practically the whole province of Asia.^(B) He says that gods made by human hands are no gods at all.^(C)

¹⁹ They arrived at Ephesus,^(A) where Paul left Priscilla and Aquila. He himself went into the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews.
