¹⁹ A number of those who practiced magic collected their books and burned them publicly; when the value of these books^[a] was calculated, it was found to come to fifty thousand silver coins.

⁸ But the magician Elymas (for that is the translation of his name) opposed them and tried to turn the proconsul away from the faith.^(A)

²⁵ The images of their gods you shall burn with fire. Do not covet the silver or the gold that is on them and take it for yourself, because you could be ensnared by it, for it is abhorrent to the Lord your God.^{(A) 26} Do not bring an abhorrent thing into your house, or you will be set apart for destruction like it. ² So the king commanded that the magicians, the enchanters, the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans be summoned to tell the king his dreams. When they came in and stood before the king,^(A)
