Paul in Ephesus

19 And it happened that while ^(A)Apollos was at Corinth, Paul passed ^(B)through the inland^[a] country and came to Ephesus. There he found some disciples.

Final Instructions

¹² Now concerning ^(A)our brother Apollos, I strongly urged him to visit you with the other brothers, but it was not at all his will^[a] to come now. He will come when he has opportunity.

¹² What I mean is that ^(A)each one of you says, “I follow Paul,” or “I follow ^(B)Apollos,” or “I follow ^(C)Cephas,” or “I follow Christ.”

¹⁹ And they came to ^(A)Ephesus, and he left them there, but ^(B)he himself went into the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews. ²⁰ When they asked him to stay for a longer period, he declined. ²¹ But on taking leave of them he said, “I will return to you ^(C)if God wills,” and he set sail from Ephesus.

Paul in Corinth

18 After this Paul^[a] left Athens and went to Corinth.

⁴ For ^(A)when one says, “I follow Paul,” and another, “I follow Apollos,” ^(B)are you not being merely human?

⁵ What then is Apollos? What is Paul? ^(C)Servants through whom you believed, ^(D)as the Lord assigned to each. ^6 (E)I planted, ^(F)Apollos watered, ^(G)but God gave the growth. ⁷ So ^(H)neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.

²³ After spending some time there, he departed and ^(A)went from one place to the next through the region of Galatia and Phrygia, ^(B)strengthening all the disciples.

Apollos Speaks Boldly in Ephesus

²⁴ Now a Jew named ^(C)Apollos, a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus. He was an eloquent man, ^(D)competent in the Scriptures. ²⁵ He had been instructed in ^(E)the way of the Lord. And ^(F)being fervent in spirit,^[a] he spoke and taught accurately the things concerning Jesus, though he knew only ^(G)the baptism of John. ²⁶ He began to speak boldly in the synagogue, but when ^(H)Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside and explained to him ^(I)the way of God more accurately. ²⁷ And when he wished to cross to ^(J)Achaia, ^(K)the brothers encouraged him and ^(L)wrote to the disciples to welcome him. When he arrived, ^(M)he greatly helped those who through grace had believed, ²⁸ for he powerfully refuted the Jews in public, showing by the Scriptures ^(N)that the Christ was Jesus.
