⁵ When Silas^(A) and Timothy^(B) came from Macedonia,^(C) Paul devoted himself exclusively to preaching, testifying to the Jews that Jesus was the Messiah.^(D)

¹⁴ For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died.^(A)

²¹ I have declared to both Jews^(A) and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance^(B) and have faith in our Lord Jesus.^(C)

²⁸ For he vigorously refuted his Jewish opponents in public debate, proving from the Scriptures^(A) that Jesus was the Messiah.^(B)

³ explaining and proving that the Messiah had to suffer^(A) and rise from the dead.^(B) “This Jesus I am proclaiming to you is the Messiah,”^(C) he said.

¹⁴ The believers^(A) immediately sent Paul to the coast, but Silas^(B) and Timothy^(C) stayed at Berea. ¹⁵ Those who escorted Paul brought him to Athens^(D) and then left with instructions for Silas and Timothy to join him as soon as possible.^(E)

In Athens

¹⁶ While Paul was waiting for them in Athens, he was greatly distressed to see that the city was full of idols.

²² Yet Saul grew more and more powerful and baffled the Jews living in Damascus by proving that Jesus is the Messiah.^(A)

¹⁴ The Spirit^(A) then lifted me up^(B) and took me away, and I went in bitterness and in the anger of my spirit, with the strong hand of the Lord^(C) on me.
