³⁴ However, some men joined him and believed, among them Dionysius the Areopagite, a woman named Damaris, and others with them.

¹⁹ And they took him and brought him to the ^[a]Areopagus, saying, “May we know what this new doctrine is of which you speak?

^5 (A)Even so then, at this present time there is a remnant according to the election of grace. ⁶ And ^(B)if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. ^[a]But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work.

^4 (A)And some of them were persuaded; and a great multitude of the devout Greeks, and not a few of the leading women, joined Paul and ^(B)Silas.

⁴⁸ Now when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of the Lord. ^(A)And as many as had been appointed to eternal life believed.

²² All the saints greet you, but especially those who are of Caesar’s household.

Addressing the Areopagus

²² Then Paul stood in the midst of the ^[a]Areopagus and said, “Men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are very religious;

Jesus Buried in Joseph’s Tomb^(A)

^38 (B)After this, Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly, ^(C)for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate gave him permission. So he came and took the body of Jesus. ³⁹ And ^(D)Nicodemus, who at first came to Jesus by night, also came, bringing a mixture of ^(E)myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds. ⁴⁰ Then they took the body of Jesus, and ^(F)bound it in strips of linen with the spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury. ⁴¹ Now in the place where He was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had yet been laid. ⁴² So ^(G)there they laid Jesus, ^(H)because of the Jews’ Preparation Day, for the tomb was nearby.

⁴⁸ Have any of the rulers or the Pharisees believed in Him? ⁴⁹ But this crowd that does not know the law is accursed.”

⁵⁰ Nicodemus ^(A)(he who came to ^[a]Jesus ^[b]by night, being one of them) said to them, ^51 (B)“Does our law judge a man before it hears him and knows what he is doing?”

⁵² They answered and said to him, “Are you also from Galilee? Search and look, for ^(C)no prophet ^[c]has arisen out of Galilee.”
