³⁴ But some men joined him and believed, among whom also were Dionysius ^(A)the Areopagite and a woman named Damaris and others with them.

¹⁹ And they took him and brought him to ^(A)the Areopagus, saying, “May we know what this ^(B)new teaching is that you are presenting?

⁵ So too at the present time there is ^(A)a remnant, chosen by grace. ^6 (B)But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise grace would no longer be grace.

⁴ And ^(A)some of them were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, as did ^(B)a great many of the devout ^(C)Greeks and not a few of the leading women.

⁴⁸ And when the Gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and ^(A)glorifying the word of the Lord, and as many as were appointed to eternal life believed.

Jesus Is Buried

^38 (A)After these things Joseph of Arimathea, who was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly ^(B)for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus, and Pilate gave him permission. So he came and took away his body. ^39 (C)Nicodemus also, who earlier had come to Jesus^[a] by night, came ^(D)bringing a mixture of ^(E)myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds^[b] in weight. ⁴⁰ So they took the body of Jesus and ^(F)bound it in ^(G)linen cloths with the spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews. ⁴¹ Now in the place where he was crucified there was a ^(H)garden, and ^(I)in the garden a new tomb ^(J)in which no one had yet been laid. ⁴² So because of the Jewish ^(K)day of Preparation, ^(L)since the tomb was close at hand, they laid Jesus there.

^48 (A)Have any of the authorities or the Pharisees believed in him? ⁴⁹ But this crowd that does not know the law is accursed.” ^50 (B)Nicodemus, who had gone to him before, and who was one of them, said to them, ^51 (C)“Does our law judge a man without first ^(D)giving him a hearing and learning what he does?” ⁵² They replied, ^(E)“Are you from Galilee too? Search and see that ^(F)no prophet arises from Galilee.”
